I was prescribed vyvanse by my family doctor because insurance will not cover Psch. First he gave me adderall and I felt like I was on drugs so I went back to see him.
He gave Vyvanse 50 mg but really did not give me any instructions except take it in the morning. It seems to really help with focus & energy and concentration. It seems to help my mood alot at work aswell at home with my family.
The problem is I am afraid of becoming a addict on this stuff. I have a close friend who was a full blown addict on stimulants and it has scared me to death. I would be lying if I told you that vyvanse does not give some kind of a euphoric feeling.
I have been on vyvanse for about 6 weeks and am having trouble comming up with the right strategy for taking it. I do not want to become hooked or have to amp up mg because of becoming tolerant of the drug.

I have been taking it for a couple of days then not taking for a couple of days in hoping that we help with my worries. People tell me to take it during the week and take the weekends of but I think it helps me concentrate and pay attention to my family when Im at home.
So please give me some insight on my problem and thanks in advance.

Everyone because tolerent of one drug or another...whether it be stimulants or not, especially when taken for long periods of time. I take 70mg Vyvanse once every morning, even on the weekends. I orignally thought I didn't need to take it on the weekends because there wasn't really a need for focus. I didn't realize how much it was helping with my impatience of people.

Have you ever been addicted to anything before? It's not something I worry about too much, mainly because I know my psychiatrist is watching out for these kinds of things and if he thinks there is an issue he is going to let me know. My family doctor is also in the loop with everything and is also watching out for things of that nature; not because I've been addicted to drugs or medications before, but simply because it's so common in the area I live and I personally was so worried about it. I procrastinated on expressing my thoughts with the psychiatrist for fear he was going to up my dose.
For me, the euphoria has not gone away and I've been taking it since September...half the time I just don't notice it anymore.

My advice is don't worry so much...I'm sure they're looking out for you and watching what's going on. I do not want to become hooked or have to amp up mg because of becoming tolerant of the drug.

I'm taking 70mg's everyday.... just like I wear my glasses every day. It just helps me to be so much more aware of my world. I have become addicted to being focused, alert, productive and happy. I love being able to remember things because I was actually listening. I really enjoy seeing the details that I'd never noticed before.

I remember going in to work one day.. and not feeling very good. I felt like I had been drugged. Very fuzzy and unfocused. My wife called and said I had left my pill on my desk at home. Doh!!! I now keep a few in the office just in case I ever forget.

Congrats on finding something that works well for you. There's no crime in having more focus and an elevated mood. And from what my doctor said you cannot build up a tolerance for this med. Find the right level and stick with it!!

HaHa...I have so done that, but I've made it a point to carry them in my purse at all times.

I recently put a post on my ADD blog that says everything as to how I look at it. Lifedoodling.com - Self Respect. (http://lifedoodling.com/?p=23)

Medication is what you make it.

I take it everyday. If you can get by without needing to take your medication everyday, do you really need the medication in the first place? If I do not take my medication I feel that I am a trainwreck waiting to crash.

It all depends on what I've got going on. I definitely feel like a train wreck today. It's been a bad week. When I've got a lot going on or a lot of stress in general, I can't skip at all. But if it's just everyone hanging out doing nothing then I skip it.

I forgot to take it this morning and now it's 4am and wondering if I should take it or not?
