View Full Version : Adderall has no effect on weekends
Nam3kaTh 12-16-07, 12:33 AM Hello,
I've been taking Adderall 20mg for close to a year now. I'm not sure if I really have ADD or ADHD (although I was diagnosed by a neurologist) I do feel I am far more effective on it.
I'm a college student now and during the week while I am in class shortly after taking Adderall I just have this euphoric motivation to do work.
On the weekends however, I wake up take an adderall and feel absolutely NOTHING and I have tired just about everything, forcing myself to work, taking a drive to Starbucks and sitting in a park and drinking coffee, and no matter what I do, that 'euphoric motivation' I described above cannot be achieved, which leads to betting myself up, being frustrated all day, and just plain being miserable.
Yesterday for instance (It was a Friday and I simply had to drive 20 minutes to school to meet with a professor) I was able to come home and study for a math final thats coming up next week. I had planned to do the same thing Saturday and Sunday, and I felt by doing this I would do very well. Today however, I woke up, took an adderall, attempted to emulate my morning compute with a drive to Starbucks, came home, and just couldn't get to that level of stimulation that I am able to achieve Monday - Friday.
I search Google several times to just see if anyone else had this reaction and could not find anything. If anyone else has this problem and has found a solution to overcome this, PLEASE help. Thanks.
Maybe it's because you simply don't need to focus your attention as you would in school and it's not as noticeable?
It could be that you lack structure and routine on the weekends. I find that if I take Adderall on the weekends it isn't as effective as when I take it during the week when I am working.

20 mgs?!?!? Isn't that like 100 mgs. of Vyvanse?
tomxkite 01-06-08, 11:21 PM I experienced the same thing, except that for me, adderall effect waned on Thursday. I am on 15 mg a day dosage, although my physician says that I can take up to 30mg.
So on Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday, 15mg would work fine, on Thursday I felt nothing. Little research revealed that the mind sort of gets used to the adderall level and stops responding to it.
So I changed my dosage as 10mg on Monday, 10 on tuesday 15 on wednesday - thursday and 20 on Friday and on the weekend I don't take it unless I have something pressing to do. Generally end up taking 10 mg on Sunday.
I found that titrating the dosage works best for me. I really have to reduce the dosage one day for Addreall to have continued effectiveness on the next day.
This doesn't explain everything, since you are taking 20mg every day and seeing effect on M-F but on not on the weekend, but it is a data point.
Good luck.

Is the "100 mgs" a typo? Did you mean to type "10 mgs" instead?
Just curious, because 20 mgs of Adderall would be much closer to 10 mgs of Vyvanse than it would be to 100 mgs of Vyvanse.
soccerloven 01-08-08, 09:18 PM no 20 mgs of adderall IS 100 mg of vyvanse. the person who said it was right...
the lowest dose of vyvanse is 30 mg and that equals only 5 mg of adderall.

OK, I'll take your word for it since I have never taken Vyvanse.
However, if 30 mgs of Vyvanse is equal to 5 mgs of Adderall, then why isn't 20 mgs of Adderall equal to 120 mgs of Vyvanse?
ben72227 01-08-08, 10:04 PM 100mg of Vyvanse??
The table I've seen for 'converting' Adderall to Vyvanse is a bit different:
Vyvanse 30 mg = Adderall XR 10 mg
Vyvanse 50 mg = Adderall XR 20 mg
Vyvanse 70 mg = Adderall XR 30 mg
meriellyn 01-08-08, 11:44 PM 20mg of Adderall daily is not that much. I was on a fairly low dose and usually took 15mg.
As for your original question...
I find it a little surprising that you still get the euphoria after a year but everyone's different, I guess.
Dex doesn't seem quite the same for me if I take it on the weekend either. I think my body just knows it's the weekend. Lol. But seriously... if I am not really doing anything on the weekend, it doesn't act the same. I tend to just take the weekend off from my ADD meds, unless I have something major going on. More buffer for when I forget to get the prescription filled on time and hafta wait for the order to come in. Lol.
Are you still able to focus more but just not achieving the euphoria and extra push?
