Hey guys,

I'm considering trying out Vyvanse, but I had some questions first. I use Adderall XR 20mg right now, along with some Adderall IR as needed. I've been on this for about a year I would say. I have probably taken Adderall approximately 50-75% of the days ever since this time last year. In other words, I don't use it every day. I have tried dexedrine spansules in the past, but I do seem to prefer Adderall. I feel it gives me an extra 'kick' which the dexedrine lacks. I'm worried that Vyvanse won't give me that same kick (since I heard it's quite similar to dex).

Will my doc prescribe me Vyvanse since I know it's been officially FDA approved for children ages 6-12?
This is for anyone currently on Vyvanse: can you compare Vyvanse and the previous drug(s) you have taken?
Does food not seem to adversely effect Vyvanse like the other amphetamines (acidic food/foods with vit. C)? I remember hearing this was one of the advantages, and it would be a HUGE advantage for me since this would be most of the reason I would want to switch away from Adderall.
If you take Vyvanse, how long has the drug lasted for you?
Thanks,
Dan

1. My psychiatrist prescribed it to me and I'm 22...don't really fit in that age range either
2. Sorry, I've only taken Vyvanse. I'm not much help here.
3. Food doesn't bother the medication, but that's "when" you eat lol. I can say a nice high protein breakfast will help.
4. For me it lasts anywhere from 7-14 hours per day, depends on the day, the stress, and what time of month it is. I started with 50mg once a day...the lasted for about 5 weeks and I had to go up to 70mg once a day...I'm starting to feel it ween off again and it's obvious I need something more to study...At no time during the medication have I been able to study. For me, yes it gives me a "kick", but this is also the first time I've ever taken stimulant medication.

Howdy Dan,

Nice to see another Va native here. I've been on meds for a little over a year. Started on Adderall XR myself, rotated through a few just for comparison purposes (In a nutshell the methylphenidate meds didn't do well for me so I ended back on Adderall XR).

I was on Adderall XR twice a day. 30mg in the AM and 25mg in the PM. Adderall XR worked well but the damn stuff never lasted very long nor would it work well with any food in my stomach. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't.

I've been on Vyvanse now for 4 months and it simply rocks! This stuff is completely immune to food and acidity issues since the entire mechanism of the drug bypasses absorbtion. It is 100% consistent day in and day out. It comes on smoothly, peaks in a few hours then simply stays at a nice consistent level throughout the day. I get about 10-12 hours but truth be told this is the first med that I really don't feel and/or notice it wearing off.

I ended up at the 70mg dosage to get to where I'm at now. 30mg and 50mg didn't work well enough. Comparing this stuff to Adderall XR:
30mg Vyvanse = 10mg Adderall XR
50mg Vyvanse = 20mg Adderall XR
70mg Vyvanse = 30mg Adderall XR

Give it a shot. It's currently awaiting final approval for adults but that shouldn't stop your doctor. Adderall doses give you a greater 'kick' than dexedrine/vyvanse does but once I found my ideal dose with Vyvanse I really don't miss Adderall at all.
