View Full Version : Adderall and Urine *kinda graphic*

hi! quick question...

i've been taking Adderall IR for about 2 months now, the first month at 5mg2X/day and this month at 15mg2X/day.

my side effects have been pretty easy to deal with; cold and sweaty extremities, weight loss, dry mouth/nose/etc., and some headaches if i don't drink enough water during the day.

however, one side effect i've noticed is that my urine smells very strong, and very foul. sometimes like something's burning, other times like gas (yes, that kind of gas). sorry for the graphic language! i'm getting a bit embarrassed to use the restroom in public or at other people's homes because of this. kinda awkward.

i don't smoke, nor eat processed foods. i drink tons of water throughout the day, and chew gum to combat the dry mouth/breath issue. i do occasionally drink a cup of coffee, but the smell is still there whether or not i do. i do work out 3-4 times a week. my health "down there" is fine, i had my annual done 3 weeks ago. there's no burning or itching or anything odd. just the smell. i'm not taking any other medications.

has anyone else had this? is it something i should be overly concerned about? the only lifestyle change i have made in the last two months is taking the Adderall. i will bring this up with my doc at the next appt, but it would be good to know if others have experienced this!

thanks!

it started after the meds?

i've never had it...but its something to watch out for Adderall does affect the stomac so maybe with you its affecting something else

Hmmm, the only time my urine will smell a bit "stronger" is if I haven't had enough water to drink thoughout the day. Otherwise, I've never experienced this problem.

Definitely tell your doctor about this.

Weird question, but have you noticed a change in the color/appearance in the urine? Sometimes cloudy urine can indicate infection. And darker urine could indicate slight dehydration, among other things. FYI- I'm not a doctor. Just throwing ideas around. :)

Adderall is processed through the liver. So certain drugs/foods can make the urine more acidic. Hence the reasoning of limiting acidic foods, citric acid, etc. So if you are eating a lot of fruit or had recent diet changes this may be the cause. Also, what about Vitamins? I take a Stress Formula Vitamin loaded with B Vitamins. It has an effect on color/odor of my urine. I take my vitamin in the evening to avoid any effect of the absorption of my adderall and making my urine more acidic at night rather than during the day when I need my adderall to work. You might mention it to your doctor though.

I drink enough water so that my mouth doesn't feel dry and I don't feel thirsty. I forget to make myself drink more water than that, though, and I experience...feminine dryness...

Does this happen to any one else?

I have the same issue with urine. It definaltly smells different, to me it smells like cat urine....I know that sound weird. So I definatly know what you are talking about. Not sure why or how this happens......

thanks for the replies! i didn't know about the urine color thing, but i'll start tracking that immediately...

also not sure about the vitamins...i don't take supplements, but maybe it's something in my regular diet interacting with the adderall? hm. i'll start tracking my diet more closely as well.

i wonder if it's one of the filler chemicals in the adderall pill? so many questions! it's a very strange side effect http://addforums.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif

not sure about the feminine dryness, i haven't noticed any difference at all...but it would kind of make sense, if your mouth is dry as well...how about your nose and ears? are they dryer as well?

what color is it is it light or dark yellow? smelly urine and bright yellow urine is are both signs of dehydration.
