they are acting sorta better on the home front.. no reactions to being taken off except having concentration issues at school again but nothing too bad and they seem pretty much overall ok does that indicate the drug really wasnt doing much.. while on ritalin his report card came home c and d's anyways... that was ON the drug and i found myself more in tears and frusterated with him than i am now that he is off the drug.. he is acting like a normal 8 yr old... ya he has some issues in school but nothing i dont think some extra work wont help.. any thoughts.. I was kinda leary of taking him off and we went right off.. no weaning.. and he has been doing well:confused:

If there was not much difference it could be it wasn't the right medication for him. We tried Concerta, Adderal, and Daytrana before starting Strattera and Tenex with success. Sometimes it takes time to figure out what works best for someone.

If he's really having concentration issues I am curious as to what kind of "extra work" you feel would be helpful.

To effectively treat ADHD , Ritalin and other stimulants must be at the appropriate ,effective dose for each person. Just because you saw little difference in your child's report card ,doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't have ADHD. The dose may have been inadequate. Some people respond better to Adderall than Ritalin. There are many factors to consider. Since you do notice your child's concentration has noticeably worsened, I would suggest you don't assume he doesn't need medication.
