I just got prescribed Ritalin for a diagnosis of inattentive ADD.

I will start tomorrow morning. I have 60 pills of 10mg each. I think I will break a pill in half and start with 5 and 5 later.. It's Ritalin IR by the way.. the pill itself is a light blue/greenish color and its marked CIBA on one side and on the other its marked A/B.. these are the original non-generic pills right? :)

I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow.. :D

The brand should be Novartis. And the pills look white, at least here in Belgium.

I was just prescribed Ritalin as well, it says on the fact sheet that I got from the pharmacy that you should not break the medication in half because it is meant to be slow releasing and by breaking it in half, you are exposing yourself to the medication faster, which could not be a good thing.
It's important to take medication as directed by your doctor. If he or she said 10mg's...I'd take that dosage instead of messing around.

It sounds like you are talking about the extended release kind, rather than instant release. For the original poster, how did the Ritalin go? I recently switched to Ritalin and I don't like it at all so far, and I'm inattentive type as well.

Yep, those are brand name Ritalin pills....good old CIBA. Sometimes I let out a tourette's outburst with the centre being "CIBA!"

QUESTION: HAS ANYONE ELSE TRIED THE "PMS-METHYLPHENIDATE" GENERICS, THEY ARE LIKE LIGHT BLUE WITH "PMS" STAMPED ON ONE SIDE AND "110" ON THE OTHER? DID YOU EVEN NOTICE YOU TOOK THEM COMPARED TO BRAND RITALIN? I MUST BE 100% TOLERANT TO THEM BECAUSE I TAKE 10MG TABLET AND DON'T NOTICE VERY MUCH AT ALL. SOMATIC OR MENTAL.

Are you kidding me?? I LOVE IT..

The only negative thing is, when you do a lot of physical activity on it, like running.. your heart rate and breathing jacks up high..

Methylphenidates don't work for a lot of inattentives, and if it does it works best at low doses. Amphetamines have a much better effect on these people.

I'm just on Ritalin for a few days and my shrink actually told me beforehand to experiment with doses. Starting at 10mg every three and a half to four hours, and if that doesn't work increase it by 5mg till a maximum of 20mg.

The four hours period isn't working for me though, since the effects seems to wear off in 2-2,5 hours.. but i'm not sure yet if that has anything to do with doses.

What i'm trying to say is that you might benefit to experiment a bit with doses, especially with a drug like Ritalin where dosages differ so much per individual. It would ofcourse be wise to discuss that with your doctor first. In my case i'm actually doing what my shrink told me, but not what has been prescribed.

It sound like the normal type instant release. Because of IR. The other kinds are SR and LA. So he can actually cut it in half. Check it out, there are two 10 MG ritalin colors.

Don't worry, Arkyle. You do have the quick release; it's perfectly fine to break them up.

And I do find them best at low dosages. But I'm not sure whether I'm inattentive or combined...you can experiment to see what your best fit is.

Better than Adderall??
Better focus on Ritalin??
I am on 4mg of Adderall XR, and going up in dose slowly. But not noticing too much focus. Maybe need more in me, though.

I didn't think Shire made a "4mg" capsule of Adderall XR....I thought they only came in: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30mg capsules.

In my initial medication consul, the Dr. said I could choice between Aderall and ritalin. I chose ritalin b/c, he said aderall could take up to 2 weeks to kick in, and that it's success rate was about 50/50. He suggested if I was already behind(I'm in college) to go with something other than adderall. B/c if you need something now, and you have to wait 2 weeks, and another 2 weeks to find out that it's not working for you, you start another med even further behind. Of course there were other med options he discussed, but I am out of pocket so I needed the cheapest quickest solution at the time.
