i see other posts about not getting a high on ritalin so i'm going to post my experience. when i took focalin i could tell that i was on it. i could feel a change within 30 minutes. so far with the adderall AND ritalin i don't feel anything but awake. i dont have that euphoric feeling that i used to get with focalin. what do you think of this?

i think it is the way it is supposed to work. the thing that has struck me as disturbing whilst reading this site is that some people (supposed legit ADD sufferers) refer to "holding back" dosages so they can have a period where they can take more and "get things done". This to me is traversing the "abuse" boundary and would only increase tolerance and make the usual therapeutic doses less effective.
as people who need this stuff, we need to find the lowest possible dosage that works and enables us to function as close to normal as possible.
so in summary- dont look for a high. look for contentment or at least a measurable improvement in the symptoms that have been plaguing you- WITHOUT any noticable "buzz".
in my humble opinion.

yep. Better not use 60mg a day. And supplement magnesium. Magnesium is a nmda receptor (just as ketamine and dxm) and suposedly reduces amphetamine, cocaine, and methylphenidate tollerance.

yep. Better not use 60mg a day 60mgs. of what? And why should it not be used, if the doctor felt it was the proper amount to RX?

60mg for one person can be like 10mg to another. People metabolize differently. No point making blanket statements about dosages.

Well according to research, use of 60mgs doesnt result into tollerance, except for the "reinforcing effects". But over 60mgs will. Google methylphenidate tollerance and it probably pops up as one of the first results

How about I refer to my psychiatrist and my own personal experience first instead? You can find anything to support any idea at all on the internet if you look long enough in the right places.

NonSequitor, you and I are in complete agreement. Blanket statements don't seem very helpful to me, either.

True, I sometimes get obsessed with reading that stuff  My psych thinks its unhealthy ;)

She acted all offended because I explained about the d isomer of methylphenidate (focalin).

She didnt know about that :-/

I get a bit high from Ritalin. Could that mean I don't have ADD? I'm being tested next week for having all the symptoms.

do you feel calmer and more relaxed?..at too high a dose you will feel chatty and slightly euphoric and then really tired.

Yeah, my mind is calmer and I'm way more relaxed, but at the same time I'm less shy and I'm much more able to be active physically (like dancing). That's not a sign of hyperactivity, I can keep still if I want to, but that's never much of a problem (getting tested for Inattentive btw)

I should also note that at the same time I do experience euphoria and being chatty. That's not the case when I take a smaller dose (ie 5mg at once instead of 10), but the other effects I've explained above are minimal too. In other words, it improves my symptoms slightly, but not enough to function normally, which I do experience at twice the dose. But aren't the euphoria/chattiness just common side effects and not a sign I took too much?

I feel tired when it wears off, but it depends. I only feel tired when 1) I drink energy drinks at the same time or 2) take 10mg, wait 3 hours, take another 5 or 10mg and the last dose wears off. I have noticed that isn't as much the case when I wait longer for my next dose.

I agree!!!!

I like to take very lowww dosages of methylphenidate for school.. like 5mg, every 4-5 hours.. and it makes me talk to people i would never normally talk to.. it gives me more confidence, more relaxed, more assertive, it puts me in a good mood.. i feel like the best version of myself.

If I don't take 5-10mg ritalin and goto school, I typically will be in a very zombie-mood.. will not care to socialize at all.. will feel very unfocused, nervous..

BTW I don't even really think I truly have ADD that bad, but i was diagnosed with inattentive type, very mild.. so, thats probably why such a small dose of ritalin does WONDERS for me.

I'm going to see my doc monday though and try Dex IR, and see if ritalin or dex is better for me.. although I think amphetamines are probably worse for your brain, right?

I have the same problem without Ritalin.

10mg works best for me and wears off after 2 or 3 hours. 5mg still has some good effects but it wears off much quicker (like 1-1,5 hours). Anyone know what's up with that? It doesn't make much sense that a smaller dose wears off quicker.

Stabby, I experience the same symptoms with Ritalin. I understand the focus aspect of the meds. And I'd venture to say, I have a mild form of it. I was reassessed in my twenties by a specialist who said I have a deficit rather than a disorder...

What I don't quite understand is the social aspect. I'm naturally a social person, but I find that on Ritalin I'm much more confident and less self-conscious, as well as in a generally chirpier mood and I've always wondered how this forms part of the AD(H)D profile? In other words, if my problem is focus why does the Ritalin help me focus, but also affect these areas? What's the relationship?

I'd appreciate all of your experiences with this, as well as any insights.

These drugs raise dopamine levels. Increased dopamine levels increase motivation and pleasure. It's wonderful!
