I'm using effexor xr for my adhd treatment currently. Why? Because I have tried dexi's and ritalin. Both made me sick in different ways. My medical plan only covers the 2 adhd treatments that made me sick. So I resorted to an anti depressant and hope it help me in school. Witch it has been but lately I feel like my depression gets worse each day. So has anyone else taken effexor for adhd due to medical plans not covering what you should be taking? How did it affect you?

I am current on Effexor XR 75mg for depression, and have found that the medication does enhance focus/concentration VERY slightly. But in comparison to stimulant drugs, Effexor is useless for treating add/adhd, which is why I am on Adderall simultaneously. As always, you might find that Effexor is the way to go, so don't get discouraged. Sorry to hear that those two meds didn't work out for you.

My new doctor suggested I consider Effexor because it can work well for ADHD patients with depression and anxiety. But I don't really know why. Everything I've read says it's typically not considered first-line treatment because of its horrible side effects and discontinuation effects.

Honestly, I don't know if my depression or anxiety has reached a point where I need treatment for it since I'm so afraid of the side effects and discontinuation.

I took Effexor for a while for depression and anxiety. It did very little for my depression, did help a bit with the anxiety, and had no noticable effect on my ADHD (I was on no other ADHD meds at the time).
In the end, I definitely didn't find it to be worth the horrible withdrawal period I had to go through to get off it, or the way I felt when I'd miss a dose or the time I ran out of pills.
I certainly wouldn't say it was in any way an effective ADHD treatment for me.

Good luck.
