So after one year of struggling to find a doctor with the good sense to put me on the only ADD med that works well for me, without side-effects,. As the fates would have it, I find myself now (having been with my great doctor for less than a year!) starting the whole process all over again...

Earlier today I asked my new doctor- at his local community clinic to write a new prescription for the same medication I've been taking for years: Dexedrine. As soon as he heard the words "ADD" coming from my mouth I saw his highbrows raise, but when I dropped the D bomb I could see his brain rack: is this guy a junky? selling? or maybe they're all for him. I can get to the bottom of this!

He started grilling me, very uncomfortably, about my medical history, history with ADD, etc. I told him that I'd been taking two 5 mgs twice a day,but that in my experience, 1 ER Finally followed by two 5mgs instant works best. He then abruptly left the room (with the empty pill bottle I brought to show him). Through the door I could hear his conversations with the other doctors and nurses, asking them what they thought he should do with me. THIRTY minutes later he returned with a prescription asked if I had any questions, and our meeting was over.

Outside I saw that he had written a prescription for 10mg Adderall ER. WTF!!!!

What do I do now? Call them and say "My doctor prescribed me the wrong medicine probably because he was suspicious about my"? My meds run out SOON and I don't know what to do!

So after one year of struggling to find a doctor with the good sense to put me on the only ADD med that works well for me, without side-effects So are we to assume/believe that you have actually tried all of the other ADD medications that are prescribed for this condition?

What do I do now?Perhaps you should follow your doctors next suggestion, or perhaps maybe you should suggest something to this Dr, or perhaps find another Dr?

Call them and say "My doctor prescribed me the wrong medicine probably because he was suspicious about my"? My meds run out SOON and I don't know what to do!Probably not the wisest thing to say from my experience. However, I would suggest that you be open to the fact that your doctor is in fact a human being. I know it may be hard to believe, but yes, he/she was born just like you and me, and he/she is full of faults and all that jazz just like you and me. Anyhoot, what I'm getting at (not very well mind you) is the fact that it took me several years of puting up with minor errors here and there that my doctor kept making concerning my diagnosis. This is the case for most of us. Many of us have taken longer than 10 years to find the right medication, and then the right dose of that medication. Nuff said. Geeze.

OMG I'd be livid. I don't get the stigma attached to dex! I get absolutely no effects from it that would be remotely considered a "buzz" or "high" but with Adderall I always felt like I was "on something" and jacked up. If someone wanted to abuse one of these amphetamine meds, Adderall would certainly be the way to go. Personally I think dex is waaaay more benign!

I can't believe he just wrote you a script for a different med and sent you on your way without even discussing the switch with you.

I'd march my butt right back in there and inform them that I'd obviously been given the wrong prescription and had no intention of switching off of a medicine that works well for me with no ill effects. Then I'd proceed to find a new doc.
I'm assuming you've tried Adderall before, right? If so, explain to him that you've already tried that med and it didn't agree with you and you want to stay on the one that has been working for you for some time now. (Of course before you can blink he'll probably be trying to fire off a script for Vyvanse or some thing. :P)

Why did you hafta stop seeing the other doc? Would it be possible to get your old doc to contact your new doc about your meds? If you could at least bring in your records from your old doc you diagnosis and treatment plan should help back you up.

Personally I would find a new doctor, my recent new doctor tried giving me Adderall XR and I was like "No Way", I take Dexedrine myself. Bring it up at the next appointment.
