View Full Version : Where are the Formatting Choices....? Odd~Scrooball 12-28-07, 06:25 PM I realize there are a lot of updates and changes going on and maybe I'm being silly~but where are the Fonts, Sizes, Color choices and the missing Smilies? Thanks for any explanations. :D :D :D Andrew 12-28-07, 06:43 PM If you click on the POST REPLY button at the bottom of a thread, you'll be taken to the Advanced Editor (where you'll find the fonts and other formatting features available). If you don't see this, please check your User Control Panel, under your options, in the Miscellaneous Options, you should see an option called "Message Editor Interface". Select the one you want and go :) Andrew 12-28-07, 06:44 PM If you click on the POST REPLY button at the bottom of a thread, you'll be taken to the Advanced Editor (where you'll find the fonts and other formatting features available). If you don't see this, please check your User Control Panel, under your options, in the Miscellaneous Options, you should see an option called "Message Editor Interface". Select the one you want and go :) Also, if you click on the QUOTE option in a post, you'll have the same editing options available to you. Odd~Scrooball 12-29-07, 10:37 AM Hi , I tried all of those suggestions and my font color size, choice box is still not working at all and a lot of the smilies are missing. :( Leah 12-29-07, 10:50 AM Hope this belongs in this thread - any ideas on where the cut & paste options went? Can't use the right-click option to cut, either. Andrew 12-29-07, 11:43 AM Hope this belongs in this thread - any ideas on where the cut & paste options went? Can't use the right-click option to cut, either. Where are you experiencing these problems? In the Reply to thread window? Selecting the text and using the following keyboard shortcuts should work: CTRL-X = Cut CTRL-C = Copy CTRL-V = Paste Andrew 12-29-07, 11:44 AM Hi , I tried all of those suggestions and my font color size, choice box is still not working at all and a lot of the smilies are missing. :( Yes, there are some smilies missing. Now sure we'll be able to get those back :( But maybe some new ones on the way instead (cross your fingers). As for the font formatting...are you telling me that when you highlight your text in the Reply to Thread editing box and click on the FONTS pull down, you can't change your fonts? Leah 12-29-07, 03:23 PM Where are you experiencing these problems? In the Reply to thread window? Selecting the text and using the following keyboard shortcuts should work: CTRL-X = Cut CTRL-C = Copy CTRL-V = Paste Ah, lovely. Thanks. Andrew 12-29-07, 04:47 PM If you wish to add style, fonts or colors to your posts when using the Quick Reply box at the bottom of a thread, click the "GO ADVANCED" button underneath the box. You should find all the style controls there. Also, if you just click the POST REPLY button or QUOTE buttons, you should have those options as well. Please let us know if that's not the case...and what browser (and version) you're using. Thanks! Odd~Scrooball 12-29-07, 05:06 PM Options are still not working and how do I find out what browser my computer uses? Andrew 12-29-07, 06:15 PM In the browser you're in, go to the HELP menu, and select the ABOUT option....then reply to this thread with the information you see there (i.e. Firefox 2.0.0.1.1, Internet Explorer 6) Andrew 12-29-07, 06:39 PM Please check your browser settings and make sure that ENABLE JAVASCRIPT is checked/enabled. Odd~Scrooball 12-29-07, 10:17 PM My computer has Internet Explorer Version 5 and from what I've gathered- unless I'm wrong about it Please tell me if I am -is that this version does not allow enabling of Javascript. I also am unable to click on the available emoticons. Andrew 12-30-07, 12:07 AM How do I enable Javascript in IE5? 1. Click on "Tools" on the tool bar, then choose "Internet Option". 2. Choose the "Security" Tab. 3. In the white window, select the "Internet" with the picture of the globe. 4. Click on the button marked "Custom Level". 5. Scroll down to "Scripting" and enable "Active Scripting". 6. Click on OK and then OK again on the next window to apply the changes Source: https://antivirus.utk.edu/lanmanav/1-1-2JavaDisable.asp Odd~Scrooball 12-30-07, 12:23 AM Thanks, I followed the directions and found that "Scripting is allready enabled so what's next? Odd~Scrooball 12-30-07, 10:13 AM Hi was wondering if spam filters could be causing my current problems with the font size and color options. also was wondering if anyone else is having problems with this? The drop down boxes on the afore mentioned are blank and still inoperable. :( HighFunctioning 12-30-07, 10:49 AM I can confirm that some of the emoticons are not showing up. It seems that some of the emoticon image links may have been broken during the upgrade. Are you accustomed to using the editor where when you select a font or color, that those changes are applied directly for you to see, like this, or do they show up like this Odd~Scrooball 12-30-07, 11:50 AM I'm familiar with both methods but on this forum I was used to the drop down choices with the scroll bars using enhanced interface. I can't even click on the B I U or the available Smilies in post reply nor quick reply. Are any other posters having problems with this or is this some problem with my computer? Had no problems prior to updates. I'm not computer savvy but am learning albeit slowly! :D This Smilie came from my keyboard. Andrew 12-30-07, 12:04 PM The forum controls rely on javascript. Perhaps updating your version of Java would help. You can find that at www.java.com Odd~Scrooball 12-30-07, 12:24 PM Can I do this with Internet Explorer version 5 ? HighFunctioning 12-30-07, 12:33 PM Another thing: Certain forum functionality, when using Internet Explorer, *may* require ActiveX to also be enabled. I am not sure how such instances are handled (if non-AJAX methods are still being used). I don't think this has anything to do with the particular issue (it would affect the "Quick Reply" action though). Note: none of the above applies to Mozilla/Firefox, which supports the technology in a different manner. http://support.lexis-nexis.com/browserutility/record.asp?ArticleID=wg_enable_activex Enabling Active X for Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 1. Click Tools then Internet Options. 2. Click Security. 3. Click Internet. 4. Click Custom Level. 5. Scroll to the Active X controls and plug-ins and verify that the options are set to Enable or Prompt. 6. Scroll to the Scripting Section and verify that Active Scripting is set to Enable or Prompt. NOTE: Clicking a checked box removes the checkmark and disables the feature. If you see checkmarks in the Enable or Prompt boxes, do not click on the checked boxes. 7. Click OK. 8. Click OK. Andrew 12-30-07, 12:40 PM If Active X is running, you may need to update your Java after all. If that's the case, the link below will provide step by step instructions. It supports IE 5.5 and greater. http://java.com/en/download/help/6000010400.xml Odd~Scrooball 12-30-07, 06:05 PM I've enabled ActiveX. Thanks HighFunctioning and Andrew for the clear step by step instructions you've been giving me Now I guess the next step is to update java. Wish it was as easy as point and click..LOL!!! I've never updated or installed a program and I'm a liitle leery of the Enable and Configure part of install and/or update. :- Gulp!! :O Andrew 12-30-07, 06:08 PM I've enabled ActiveX. :- Gulp!! :O Actually, it IS just point and click. Just go to www.java.com, and click on the download button (I think its green in color). Odd~Scrooball 12-31-07, 03:37 PM Hi I've updated to Java~its in the control panel but not on desktop. I'm also wondering Should I have rebooted the whole shebang? :O also the the red and blue A's and the "Remove Link" are both red X'd in Reply to Thread box. So~o~o what's next as I still am unable to use any of the choices. And while I got your attention: How do I find the URL to my album photos to use as a background in the Customize profile box? Thank~You in advance :D :D :D livinginchaos 12-31-07, 03:48 PM Hi I've updated to Java~its in the control panel but not on desktop. And while I got your attention: How do I find the URL to my album photos to use as a background in the Customize profile box? Thank~You in advance :D :D :D hmmm . .. not really sure. I right clicked on the picture and copied the image location and put it into the "main" customize background pic, but it didn't work. Perhaps someone who knows pic stuff better than I can pop in to help out :) Odd~Scrooball 12-31-07, 04:05 PM Thanks livinginchaos:D So I guess I need to shut down everything I've got open on the computer Open"Java" in control panel and hit reboot and hope I'm not de~feeted? LOL!!! :D HighFunctioning 12-31-07, 04:12 PM Hi I've updated to Java~its in the control panel but not on desktop. I'm also wondering Should I have rebooted the whole shebang? :O also the the red and blue A's and the "Remove Link" are both red X'd in Reply to Thread box. So~o~o what's next as I still am unable to use any of the choices. That is correct. It should not be on the desktop. You are seeing those icons correctly. The A's with the red X is the Remove Formatting. The Red X refers the Remove part of their action. Odd~Scrooball 12-31-07, 04:37 PM Unfortunately I'm still unable to use any of the formatting tools. :( Are there any other option available? HighFunctioning 12-31-07, 05:04 PM Something else to check. At the bottom of the web browser window (to the right), there should be an icon and some text after it. Normally, that is a globe (the earth), and the text "Internet". If it's something else (such as Local intranet, Trusted sites, or Restricted sites), then the action that you took before to enable JavaScript would not have any effect. HighFunctioning 12-31-07, 05:11 PM Unfortunately I'm still unable to use any of the formatting tools. :( Are there any other option available? Using a different browser would help. I'm not sure if the editor is supposed to be compatible with Internet explorer 5 or not. Other web browsers include Mozilla Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com), Opera (http://www.opera.com), and Internet Explorer 6 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=1e1550cb-5e5d-48f5-b02b-20b602228de6&displaylang=en). Internet Explorer 6 should work on operating systems as far back as Windows 98. Firefox will also run on systems all the way back to Windows 98. I'm not sure about Opera. Andrew 12-31-07, 08:37 PM And while I got your attention: How do I find the URL to my album photos to use as a background in the Customize profile box? Thank~You in advance :D :D :D Once you've uploaded the picture for your background into your ADDForums album, right click the image and copy the URL (link) of the image. Paste that into the appropriate space in your profile customization. Odd~Scrooball 01-02-08, 11:58 AM Hi :D Even though I still am unable to use the formatting tools and am frustrated I want you, Andrew, High Functioning, and livinginchaos to know how very much I have appreciated your help with this vexing problem. I will get my more computer savvy sister to help with upgrading my web browser as I've noticed there are minor glitches on other websites that have suggested upgrading my browser.:O As so often happens my AD{H}D mind tends to glaze over anything I'm not familiar with or looks difficult to me! :O Oh, Should I be able to see the little little yellow triangle ! point icon at the top of my posts...? Before upgrades icon wasn't visible and I can't add to Reutation points either.
