I have been taking 40mg X 3 for about a year now and never noticed or
checked for a heart rate change when I workout. Today (2 hours after
taking my dose) for some reason I decided to check it on my new
ellipticals handlebars (30 minutes into workout), and my BPM was 190!!!
I verified the reading using my watch and my fathers blood pressure
monitor. Is this common? Has my heart rate been this high every time I
workout? According to my fitness guide 180 at my age is close to the
max heart rate for someone my age (25).

Thats alright, anything over your max heart rate is where you start to worry, but if you are working out while its that high shouldn't mean too much. Relax, stressing out about it will cause it...

Is this common? It was a common problem for me when I used to take Ritalin.

Has my heart rate been this high every time I
workout?I don't think anyone could know for sure, especially if you never suspected anything like that.

I would suggest that you bring this up with your Dr the next time you see him/her.

Please keep us posted on how things unfold.

Ritalin wearing off, anxiety rising :D. Thank you, I think it was just shocking to see my heart rate pushing 200 bpm. I forgot to mention, my heart rate was up but my blood pressure was normal.

Wouldn't 195 be your Max heart rate? I thought it was 220 minus your age?

Do you know how to calculate your Max HR?

Yeah, 100% MAX (hard to sustain and NOT ideal for working out!) is 220 BPM minus one's age.

Can't recall if you calculate the 60/70/80% before or after subtracting for age. (Makes a difference in the result.)

Most people should exercise at around 60-80% of their MAX, iirc.

Okay, i figured it out.

Formula: 220 - your age (25) = 195 (100%)

therefore

195 x 0.80 = 156 BPM (80% max; that is considered to be very hard cardio, BTW)
195 x 0.70 = 136 BPM (70%)
195 x 0.60 = 117 BPM (60%)

Im just saying, you really shouldn't be worrying unless it exceeds 100%, especially if you do not feel anything from it.

I'm not saying to ignore it, I just know how important peace of mind is to me.

eh. most people don't know that the "max heart rate" was just a rough rule of thumb a few doctors came up with- it was never meant to be gospel. As far as I know, if you feel ok, you aren't over doing it.
