you should go to a dermatologist - they can better help you with this type of problem.
at this time of year - it's usually dry scalp, but you never know.

Bandie, a scabby scalp is usually benign, but if they don't heal, other scabs develop, or the itchiness does not go away with the dandruff shampoos, a visit to the dermatolgist, as LC wrote, I agree, would be a very good idea. It could be a reaction to anything from the outside or from the inside (contactant reaction, food allergy or sensitivity, or just plain bodies reaction to stress, and other stuff). Either way, I know it can be maddening. Best of luck with it1

Does your shampoo or conditioner have "-parabens" in it? Methylparaben is one kind.

They are one of the leading chemical in skin irritations.

Seborrhea (SD) tends to be plaques that are yellow and sort of greasy in appearance.

Scabs (from healing wounds) are different.

----

Not rinsing can cause irritation and leave debris too.

----

As someone else said, you can ask for a Derm consult.

In the meantime, there is an alcohol/cortisone lotion you can ask your doc for. Forget the name. Comes in a squirt bottle by Rx.

benign is a non cancerous tumor though isn't it?

benign just means 'insignificant'.

Yep, you beat me to it!
If you were originally worried about cancer, scabs on the scalp are usually not tumors or cancer. I get those from time to time with stress and the need to switch shampoos, as my scalp seems to need the switch. Are the dandruff shampoos helping you any?

a little bit the itching stops for like a day or two then it comes back.

Bandie, you could try calling your salon too. Also, sometimes, getting hair products with a correct PH balance can help. Last time I went, she gave me a good recommendation, and my scalp is in very good shape, I even use the shampoo on my face, as I have very sensitive skin. I also have problems like you describe from time to time. If the dandruff shampoos are not working, stop using them or switch them out with a regular shampoo. The dandruff shampoos, though medicated, can still be very harsh day after day.
