First off, I will admit that most of this could have been prevented if I would have picked up my new script when I was due for a new one (30 days). Instead, I waited until the very day that I run out of meds to call my doc (about 45 days since my last prescription).

When I tried to fill my normal script of 10mg Dex x 90 tabs, the pharmacist tells me that he doesn't have it in stock and that it would take at least a week for an order to arrive!

Well, I didn't want to wait a whole week, so he called the at least 5-6 neighboring pharmacies to see if they had them in stock. Guess what? NONE of them have them either.

To make matters worse, he was calling the pharmacies for the stock checks while assisting OTHER customers. So, it went something like this.... Customer steps up to the counter. He tells the customer, "Just one moment ma'am." Then says into the phone quite loudly, "I need a stock check on 10mg dextro *short pause* AMPHETAMINE." And of course, customers whisper and look around while I'm standing to the side obviously waiting for the answer.

*sigh* I've never had a problem getting Dex tabs before. :(

Any suggestions? Is there a particular pharmacy chain that is more likely to keep these in stock? I'm not sure what to do. This sucks!

I got a prescription of tabs 120 10 mg ones to go with the spansules I already take 180 15 mg Spansules and the pharmacy gave me this crap about talking to my doctor first last friday so I have to wait until Monday to call him and tell him to call the pharmacy to get me my meds.

Pharmacies really suck sometimes.

I don't think there is a particular chain that keeps them in stock per se, but I do know that Wal-Mart, K-Mart, & Kroger pharmacies can obtain them within 48 hours or less.

The only time I have ever had to wait longer than 48 hours was when I would get a prescription written on a Friday, and then show up at the pharmacy only to find out that they were out of stock and that I would have to then wait until the following Monday.

You might consider calling more of the area pharmacies than just 5 or 6 like your pharmacist did. Surely there are more than 5 or 6 pharmacies around Dallas. I would be shocked if there was not a pharmacy in town (especially a town that size) that did not have it in stock.

However, if your pharmacist already took your prescription and ordered the drug for you, it might be too late at this point.

just another perspective for fun.... pharmacies don't intentionally set out to annoy the crap out of us. In recent years, nimrods have abused the pharmaceutical practice to the point that pharmacists must protect their hind area sometimes to the point of our inconvenience.

Which is why we can't fart left if the script says right. The pharmacist is far too likely to get sued if something goes awry from a sideways fart.

It sucks.

I'm just gonna go to Walmart pharmacy tomorrow and not worry about it. I didn't leave my script with the pharmacist.

Hopefully it'll all work out. Though I might travel to some 24-hour pharmacies tonight to see if they have any in stock. *sigh* Just another pain in the be-hind!

I have had this problem recently as well.
I usually get my scripts filled at CVS because it's close but they don't keep dex in stock and it was going to take a week and a half to get it so I called around and found some at Walgreens.
So when I got my second script for 180 5mg pills (first one was 90), I went to Walgreens and was informed that they had "about 100" and couldn't get them in for me for almost two weeks! Ugh. I only have 2 days leeway because of the stupid 28day rule so I can't afford to wait two weeks. Especially when I'm starting school this Monday.
Next I went to Walmart where I was told they didn't have any in stock but could order it and have it in on Wednesday (2 days). Swell. Dropped off the script and my insurance info and went along my merry way. My dad went to pick it up on Thursday (with me being almost out) and was told they had nothing for me. Not only that but no proof of order! She said she had no idea why I was told it'd be in Wed because they only get sched. II drugs once a week, on Friday. And she couldn't even tell us if it had been ordered until she got some email about it in the morning. Ended up calling every pharmacy in town and only coming up with Publix having 90 10mg pills. Well, I have heard better things about the 5s and I also break them in half and take 7.5 sometimes so the idea of having to quarter 10mg pills was definitely not something I was too keen on.
Eventually we found some in a neighboring town and ended up driving about 2hrs round trip to get my darn meds.
Talk about frustrating!
Luckily, not that my script has been increased (and because I take a day off every now and then adn don't take my third dose some days), I should have some leftovers at the end of the month as a buffer so I won't hafta freak out about it. But I'll still be filling that puppy every 28-30 days so I won't hafta go through that crap again. :P

At least the lady at Walmart was super nice and appologetic about it. I'm glad it was my dad dealing with it though because the way my week has been, I probably would have lost it and bitten her poor head off even though it wasn't her fault. :P

Wow Meriellyn, I'm so sorry that happened to you!! At least you have some leftovers that you can use! I essentially had NONE and it was all my fault. If I would have gone to the docs and picked up my script 30 days after my last one, I would have had plenty of "leftovers" on hand. Then none of this would be a problem. Oh well. Live and learn, right?

When do you expect your script to come in? I'm going out tomorrow to try to find a pharmacy that has enough (90 x 10mg tabs) to give me. If Wal-Mart or Kroger doesn't have them, I'm just gonna have my normal pharmacy order them and hopefully I'll get them in a couple of days or so. *sigh* What a pain!

Well, I finally got this month's filled. Dad ended up making the drive to the other WalMart for them. :)
Walgreens said that if I had them order them that time, they'd keep that many in stock for me because I told them that'll be my regular monthly prescription. I guess they won't do it next month though since I got it elsewhere. At least now I know when they put in their orders so I can get there ahead of time and get it in a few days then they should keep up the stock for me. I don't wanna hafta go through all this every month even if I do have extras, y'know? Big ol' pain in the rear!

Actually, meriellyn, back when I was on my Dad's insurance plan I COULD get the 3 month supply through mail order. I used to get Adderall XR and also Adderall IR in 90 days supply, delivered to the house. All I had to do was mail in my doctor's prescription. It was cheaper and SOOOOOOO much more convenient than doing this wild goose chase for my meds every 30 days. *sigh*

Class went really well. My new teacher seems really cool and it seems like the class will be engaging enough to keep me interested, even though it's a subject I loathe.
She made up remember everyone's names though. I was sooooo happy I took my dex. Lol. Poor fella in the back of the room had a terrible time then the next guy did as well and the first yells out "Nice to know I'm not the only one with ADD in here!" LOL It's funny because almost no one would be able to peg me for ADD just by general observation. I'm the undercover ADDer. Haha...

Tomorrow will be a bigger test, I think. Business Law. :P I don't even know who the instructor is for that one yet.

mail order pharmacies are bound by state prescription laws. What works in one state may not work in another. In virginia I can get a 90 day mail order supply of a CII script. Mail order just takes a while though. By the time you mail it off until you receive it can take a couple weeks.

haha, I know how you feel. I'm also the "undercover ADDer." Only *one* of my good friends know I have it and I'm medicated. I keep it to myself and I also don't think I'd be one to spot in a crowd as having ADHD.... well, maybe if I'm unmedicated. hahaha

Haha, yeah exactly!! Your son is lucky he has you to "borrow" meds from when that happens! ;)

I end up basically turning my apartment upside down, digging through every cabinet, rummaging through purses, bags, and whatever else, just trying to find a leftover Adderall or Dex to tie me over until I can get my new script! hehe! :o

I tried to get my 30x 10mg Adderall IR + 30x 20 mg Adderall XR monthly script filled at one of the neighborhood pharmacies down the street from me. Granted, I do live in a rough part of town ... Anyways, I walked in, smiled at the pharm tech, handed her my script and was shocked by what followed.

The tech didn't even check her computer to see if she had it in stock, she just went to talk to the older, male pharm tech about my script, who proceeds to walk over to me, tell me they don't have it & i'll have to go somewhere else.

I looked at him incredulously and asked, shouldn't you check your computer inventory or could you at least call another pharmacy to see if they have it in stock? He preceeded to YELL, "SIR, I'm sorry but this is a NARCOTIC... we can't help you fill your script. If you're wanting NARCOTICs, you'll have to go somewhere ELSE. NOW, thank you for shopping at CVS..."

I was stunned. I had to argue with him in order to get my script back. Nearly the entire store was silently staring at me as I took my script and left. The question that remains in my mind is had the pharm tech failed out of Pharm school... or was his intention to fill my script after I left and sell/use it illegally? Regardless, the idiot should have known that amphetamine is NOT A NARCOTIC!

Needless to say, I haven't been back since that incident. Now, I typically go to the local university med center pharmacy and they never give me any flack... Maybe you could do the same?

I can certainly sympathize with the out of Dex rant! I've been completely out for over a week with another week before I can get a new script I am ready to go on a rant of my own.....:eek:
