I bought this Journal at a bookstore over a year ago. Its purpose was to write down greats ideas I had so that I could work with them later and not forget. The problem is that I never had it on me when I had the ideas and I kept forgetting my ideas minutes after they happened. So yesterday I decided I will use it to record anything that comes to my mind. The first few entries are descriptions of myself that I want to present to my Dr... but keep forgetting about.

Today I went to my senior seminar class... a requirement to finish my BS in mathematics. It runs from 1 pm to 2:15... and I wrote down most of the random things that come to my brain when I am in class... everything that takes my attention off what's being discussed. Most entries are meaningless garbage.. only making sense to myself. Some I didn't write much because I kept trying to focus on the professor.

I stopped at 2:19.

I suppose that if anyone cares, they can ask me by what I meant by certain things in my list.

Most of these things that I wrote down started to put me on a long chain of tangents... most of which I didn't write down. I think in total, I payed attention for 10 minutes out of 75 minutes of class time because of these tangents.

Does anyone else do this (keep a journal of your distractions and random thoughts)? If so, please share! I'm interested.

I don't currently do that, but it's a very good idea.
I'll have to "remember" to try and do that sometime for a day and see what I can come up with....

It took me a whole year to get around to it. I have this NASTY mental habit of telling myself I will remember my thoughts and ideas when I know for a fact I won't remember. All I can remember is that I have something to remember.

I'm wanting to do a stream of consciousness thing with speaking into a voice recorder. The big thing that's stopping me from doing so is that I am afraid of what might come out my mouth... even though I would be alone and not interrupted. Perhaps I am not comfortable with myself. There's only one want to get over that... and that's to give it a shot.

great idea, though paying attention to my thoughts seems to make them sort of go away, thinking about what im thinking.

I did the same...I have so many crazy and great ideas so I got a notebook to write them down...
Ha, it's around there.

I don't know if a "bump" is acceptable around here but I was hoping if anyone does something like this. I'm very curious to read about what goes on in other people's heads, particularly ADHD folks.

Wasn't it you with that black and white avatar of the girl with puffy hair? I miss that :(

But...

I think I explained the same thing in my OP (original post). Most of my list has meaning only to me and they are BRIEF summaries of long chains of thoughts... half of what is on my list came out based on what someone said or some object I saw while in class.

Example (can't believe I remember this): I was just in my chemistry class. The professor said something about "1 atm is equal to 760 mm of Hg." Right when she said that, I drifted off into some long chain about the definitions of equality and equivalence and about how some students get confused. Like someone might say "100 degrees Celsius is equal to 212 degrees Fahrenheit." Well, this isn't true for that relationship would imply that 0 Celsius is 0 Fahrenheit.

Well, don't confuse yourself because I did a horrible job at explaining... but I just went on and on and on for minutes and before I knew it, she was talking about something totally unrelated... like dipoles or something?

And I can't help it!

But for anyone interested in explaining... what kinds of things make you drift off into another world similar to what that one statement in Chem. did for me?
