I'm not sure of the dosage, but I'm just starting out. My doc said it's a good medication but I'll have to take it 3 times a day.

Past usages:
Adderall - too speedy, side effects sucked
Concerta - got nothing but side-effects
Metadate - Wasn't sure if it was working at all, but the side-effects were limited.

I found Dexedrine to be much more effective than each of those three you mention, and I also found it to be so much easier on my body due to having fewer side effects than each of those three.

I hope that the Dexedrine goes as well for you as it did for me.

Please keep us posted on how everything unfolds.

I had similar experiences with Adderall and Concerta. So far, I'm very happy with Dexedrine.

Yeah, i found the Adderall and Ritalin-based meds to be too physically stimulating. Too many physical side effects.

Dex is smooth and mild. (Although i still get speedy bowels.)

Wow already 3 more responses than I got in the metadate thread lol.

Can you "feel" it working?

Can you "feel" it working?

Nope. I just notice that I feel more able to take on tasks I need to do. Then once I get going, I feel inspired to do a few more things. :)

I don't "feel" it at all. Not like Adderall. Definitely don't feel like I'm "on something."

Well it's my first day.

Took 5mg at 11AM, then I felt slightly tired and unfocused around 2 which is when I took it again. Was expecting to take it again at 5PM but my heart's beating pretty fast so I'm going to wait until it hopefully slows down. Is this normal? I hate this effect of stimulants and feel like it's really bad for my body.

I took the last 5mg around 6pm and everything seems to be fine. I guess I may have created a self-fulfilling prophecy. Really no complaints, just dry mouth. But, I'm not sure if the 5mg is effective enough, but then again I have nothing to gage it against.

6pm may be too late in the day.

I found increasing the first dose and keeping the 2 later doses worked well. Like 10mg, 5mg, 5mg. (this dosing schedule works well if your not a morning person - hard to get out of bed - etc)

Check your blood pressure over the first month a few times a week. Watch for signs of anxiety etc.

Thanks bobC.

My blood pressure is fine, I'm sort of a hypochondriac so I had it checked yesterday (know a doctor, so it was quick).

I honestly didn't have any trouble falling asleep (knock on wood) at 2/3AM. My schedule is basically 11AM until around 3 AM so 6PM doesn't seem late to me.
I will definitely talk to my doc about possibly upping the first dosage as I didn't feel any kick at all really. I do feel more focused, but am not sure how much of it is a placebo effect. I do like that the side-effects are limited. I also think every 3 or so hours works better because I think due to my fast metabolism it wears off quicker.

But so far I do like it MUCH more than addy/concerta/metadate (knock on wood)

Also, one thing I do notice is that it sort of "activates" when I am focusing on a task, whereas with adderall it was nonstop focus, whether I wanted it or not.

I did feel slightly depressed on the come down, but no where near how I felt when I took adderall or concerta.

Just thought I'd chime in regarding the length of time Dexedrine is lasting for you. I have had the same problem for the past few years that I've been taking it (off and on). IR dexedrine's effectiveness lasted only 2-2.5 hours for me, I even tried the time released dexedrine to find it lasts only 4 hours maximum.

After much reading today I decided to start back up on the dexedrine, this time taking a Zantac (antacid) to reduce the acidity in my stomach before taking 10mg. Apparently this increases the absorption rate as well as the length of time it lasts. Sure enough I took the 10mg's at 9:30am and it lasted me quite happily through till 1pm. Due to reading up about stomach acidity reducing the effectiveness, I reluctantly did not have any coffee through out the day (a first for me).

Unfortuneatly I still had to deal with the crappy crash at the end of the day .. There must be a way around it, and damn it, I'm determined to figure it out!

Oh, I know that the acidity issue is important with the amphetamines, does this apply for methylphenidate as well?

Acidity is that big an issue? So I should try to keep vitamin C to a minimum when on Dexedrine?

As for the antacid, I will ask my doc if that would be appropriate.

Definitely check with your doctor before trying anything, I've heard results where it actually made the medication go on too long for one person. I believe you probably should save the vitamin C till the end of the day.

I take a multivitamin and it happens to have 833% of my daily recommended vitamin C.
assume this would really deter the effect of dex?

If so, this really sucks, b/c I take the vitamin to be healthy overall and my physician said it's fine, but I haven't spoken to my psychologist about its effect on dexedrine.

I also feel compelled to mention that it hasn't affected my sleep, if anything it helps me sleep like normal people, you know, when I'm tired and want to go to bed. Which is a far cry from the single concerta I took that kept me up until after 6 am, and the sleep didn't feel good at all.

I also started exercising again, so I'm sure that helped as well.

There's definitely ways to make it more tolerable. You might not be able to get rid of it completely but you can do things to reduce it such as:

40mins of hard exercise when it has worn off
Getting enough sleep
Eating enough food (protein!)
A good multi vitamin

These things helped me a lot on the comedown from Ritalin. Should help with the dex also.
