What are the incidents of ADD in other countries?

My own personal experience makes me believe this is specifically an American affliction. I recently traveled out of the country and worked with kids 2-4 years on art projects in a preschool. In my experience I found the kids to be profoundly focused, attentive, and responsive to direction.

I've also noticed obesity being mentioned on this site as if there is some correlation to ADD. And perhaps there is but it just proves my point because Americans are overweight.

Are we creating this disease?

can anyone shed some light?

Well, what I have read, ADD occurs in all countries and all cultures.

It may be that ADD is much more in the news in the US than elsewhere. Or that there is more general inattention bc of other factors .. exposure to TV, nutrition, ... but it is definitely more than that alone. I'm from Europe, grew up in a loving, stable, caring family, got good healthy food all my life, no drugs, did not watch much TV. And I am still very much ADD.

I have lived overseas and can tell you with certainty that ADD and ADHD is not only in the USA. Most countries do not report it to the media as much as the US. Or at least, it is not as much of an open controversy. There is still a long way to go.

I think our culture can make ADHD symptoms worse but it exists in other countries too. I've been contact with people who have ADHD from many different countries.

About at the time that I was diagnosed here they were basically not really accepting it. My mom had to fight quite hard to get me tested. (think years) (A think I'm still very thankful for!) And once I was tested I was diagnosed. :/

So that might also be one of the problems. It's there only a lot more hidden.
