My psychiatrist wants to see me every 4 weeks. And then after awhile he wants to see me every 6 weeks.

I think this is a bit much, so I'm wondering how often you guys are required to see your doctor.

Also, if my copayment is $45 per office visit, that means I just pay this amount, and nothing to the doctor, right?

Thanks.

I'm seeing a psychologist for cognitive behavioral therapy and right now we're on a every two weeks schedule. My copay is $15.

It depends on your health insurance plan's coverage, but generally yeah, the only thing you pay to the doctor's office is your copay. Your doctor's office will bill the rest of the balance to your insurance company.

Since this falls into the category of mental health care, I'd check and see if your plan has any limitations as well. It's fairly common for health insurance plans to say you only get X number of visits per calendar year (My plan limits to 20 visits, and if you have to have inpatient treatment, every day you in, your limit decreases by 2). If you have limitations on your plan, I'd make your doctor aware of it so you can plan around it when/if you go over your limit.

If you're newly on medication, that's probably why your psychiatrist wants to see you at that frequency, though. He/she is trying to monitor progress, to make sure you're on the right thing.

I see my psychiatrist once a month. This month I get to go twice because he gave me a new medication last week. I pay my 40 dollars every visit, but that's it. My insurance picks up the rest of it. You shouldn't have to pay anymore than your copay unless you've gone over the amount of times your allowed to go in a year, but all depends on insurance.
