I seem to fit all the criteria for ADD-I, but I'm not sure about one thing. How would you define the hyperactive mind?

As for me, I think a lot. About myself, how my life could have been, the infinity of the universe, the existence of other intelligent lifeforms, being able to go back in time, travelling around the world, being a secret agent, etc. Also quite a lot of random thoughts I don't remember, like things I've seen on television, internet,... These thoughts arise all the time. On the bus, in class, even in bed which causes me to stay awake.

I do not have a racing mind however. My thoughts don't go too fast. I mostly don't have many thoughts at the same time. Most of the time I have a song playing in my head, with or without thinking about something else.

Could that exclude the possibility of ADD? It might be important to mention to my psychologist since she hasn't really asked. All she knows is that I think a lot.

There is a thread on here somewhere that is on a similar topic from a while ago. I can't remember much about it but I do remember that alot of people with ADD don't have hyperactive minds. I am one of the people who does have a hyperactive mind. But I don't think it means that you don't have ADD.

I would say a hyperactive mind is a mind that thinks one thought straight after another thinking about lots and lots of things.

I have more of a 'racing thought' mind which I call a very hyperactive mind and it is just as you described.

Hyperactive mind = constant state of mental flux in which thoughts follow a trajectory reminiscent of brownian motion. :p

I think anyone who feels they can't "shut down" at bedtime has a hyperactive mind.

It must be boring to not have a hyperactive mind.

Hm, for me my mind jumps from topic to topic without even me realizing the jump until several jumps later and I have to backtrack to what I was originally thinking about [ok so I was thinking of dogs because I thought of bowls because I thought of blue...]. I always have a song playing too, and there's very little inner monologue....I think of the universe and its infinite space, but I think about everything in video clips, very little verbal thinking. I find it weird when I can verbally think inside my head I'm often going "This is so cool I can say stuff in my head", usually if I try to verbally think inside my head it gets distracted with something else so I usually talk out loud to myself if I want to focus on one thread of thought.

Thnx for the replies. I can relate to most of that, but my mind doesn't jump from topic to topic without realizing. I'm always very aware of the topic changes in my head.
