So I have been taking vyvanse on and off since november and it worried me because there was not much info/research of it online. I am very interested in the long term effects of the medications i take because i care very much about my body. There was no long term stuff about Vyvanse, and i just found out today that Dexedrine and vyvanse are basically the same. There is more research, etc on dexedrine and quite frankly, i do not really like what i see in the long term effects. A few questions, how long is LONG? Also, which do you think may be different, vyvanse or dexedrine? Personal experiences?

I would assume that Dex is safer then Vyvanse.
Vyvanse is more powerful, more so then Adderall.
Although I am not a doctor, so of course, you would want to speak with him or her.
Dex has been around for forever, and is still widely used today.
Vyvnase is so new there isnt much out about it yet.
It really all has to do with how each of the medications effect you.
Also, Dex you have to take several times a day, whereas Vyvnase you are typically only supposed to take it once a day due to its delivery system.
I think Vyvanse is designed to reduce abuse and I'm guessing maybe maintain
better blood levels over the course of a day.
As for as safety you can assume that most meds used to treat ADHD will have
short and long term risks. Which means if the meds are not helping you enough to justify that risk do not take them.
ADHD itself is a mayor risk factor for injury, death, jail and low productivity.
Low productivity means low income and studies show low income equal worst
medical care in the US.
Interesting side note I often wondered what is the difference in years good diet, exercise, etc may give compared to bad living. I think a study in the news a few weeks ago said 10 more years. Which put things in prospective your going to die no matter what and trying your best might get you 10 more years.

Just curious...what do you mean by this?

yeah, i don't think that is right.
Vyvanse technically isn't the same as Dexedrine. As you may or may not know it's the d-amphetamine molecule (dexedrine) with lysine (amino-acid) tacked on.
After vyvanse passes from the stomach into the small intestine is where the magic happens. As the body digests vyvanse with our normal digestive enzymes the lysine is cleaved off and then we have dexedrine.
Vyvanse isn't the first prodrug used in the market. There are other commercially available drugs on the market that are designed this way for better consistency and long term delivery.
Safety? amphetamines have been around a long time with tons of research available. When used properly, in controlled doses there should be zero long term effects. The lipitor I take on a daily basis for controlling cholesterol has way more long term effects and risk than amphetamines taken for ADD. I could say 'hell with lipitor' and go on living for years and die from a stroke or heart attack or I can just keep taking it, monitor my liver profiles every 6 months and go about my business.
We're all dead in the end when it comes down to it. Every medication may have potential side effects and risks. If a medication with a proven safety profile is available and your quality of life improves the choice is simple.
