I've noticed that I've been having strange, realistic sort of awkward dreams since starting Focalin XR. Has anyone noticed this? Does this happen to people on other stimulant type medicines? I know this has to do with dopamine. Wellbutrin (a dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor) is known to improve sleep.

When did you start the drug? My own observation and of others is starting or stopping any medication that effects the mind will often cause short term vivid strange dreams.

been on and off, and this was days, maybe a week ago and my memory sucks as it is. can't really correlate much for you. that's gotta be what it is, though. I was just starting it (took it for less than seven days) again, before I gave up on it to side effects. thanks for the reply.

Focalin (5mg IR) caused me to have really absurd nightmares, which I thought was especially odd because I usually took this dose at around 4pm. In one dream I was happily swinging from a tire-swing when suddenly my swing and I began to fly into the air and over houses and such, but thankfully I woke up before my momentum stopped and I began descending to my doom. In another dream I was surfing on the moon and watched as a giant meteor crashed into the earth. All of this and focalin doesn't even treat my symptoms. Ah well, wish me luck with vyvanse.

I think Theta is onto something -- that it has to do with fluctuating amounts of brain bath chemicals or something. I have been taking 15mg/day of Adderall IR fairly consistently for about two weeks, and yesterday I only took about 5mg, 7.5 at most, and I found that my dreams were weird again. Come to think of it, maybe my dreams have been weird since i started the Adderall, but I am not sure. I have a friend with a neurological "condition" in which he has very elevated levels of norepinephrine, and he says it results in him not sleeping much and not getting a very deep level of sleep when he does. This correlates with my experience with Strattera, an NRI, although I think that subsided after a few weeks. Anyway, this somewhat acquits Focalin of this weirdness -- which is good 'cause it gets enough of a bad rap. I do hope it works well for some people, because patients and doctors know that we need many options for treating attention deficit.

Good luck Cheddar! I'm very interested in hearing your Vyvanse experience, if you care to journal it for the forum members.

I've had some weird dreams since I've been on Focalin, and they all seemed to be derived from rather negative or hidden emotions. One night I dreamed my entire family hated me, or expressed an extreme dislike for me. Needless to say it was a horrible venture into the sub concious that left me wondering about the effects of these meds and sleep patterns. I'm getting better sleep with this medication, but REM sleep seems deeper because of it.

I am on 54mg of Concerta and it has been profoundly effective for me, but like many of you my dreams are indeed strange. But they are more vivid, lucid, detailed and I have better recall of them after waking. And they seem to make more sense (as far as dreams go...)

Like Mohawk, I have had dreams, not necessarily of "porn" per se, but "pornographic" in nature, yes.

At other times they make for great Sci-Fi, sometimes they would make James Bond envious and Rambo seem tranquil, sometimes they are a blend of all of them.

However, strangely enough, I am getting the best sleep of my life now.

I don't usually remember what I dream about. People tell me I talk while I'm sleeping. Sometimes when I dream about falling down or something like that I do feel it and wake up lol. It's so real. Yesterday I had nightmares, but I don't remember them very well, except of my "little sister" (which I don't have) eating my dog (which I don't have) lol. It was crazy as hell; I don't remember the rest but it was insane too. The usual dreams I get to remember are weird too. Usually of people I know and places I've been, then some story unfolds there and I end up in places I want to visit. When something chandes there's that cool video effect of layers moving lol.
