I am wondering if anyone has used 5HTP or amino acid therapy to deal with ADHD.
My son has extensive frontal lobe brain damage which presents as ADHD, I have recently found a study that links amino acid problems with ADHD kids.

Does any one lese have a child with frontal lobe brain damage?

Thanks
Kim

Hi! Me and my son are doing the amino acid therapy, it is called TAAT through a local provider that works with a company that distrubutes the testing kits and supplements. It works better for him than for me, actually. He does not have the frontal lobe damage that your son is dealing with, but TAAT can be a very effective therapy for some, and you will only know if you give it a try. Just be sure to go through a physician that can direct you, THEN go and do research on all of the supplements to know any side effects, as some, long term, can be harmful.

How long have you been using TAAT? What kind of changes have you noticed in your son?

I can't find a local provider although all of the products are available online.... I am hesitant since I don't know what dosages or types of Amino acids I should start with...

Thanks for answering!!!

Hey Mincan, thanks for the reply - I did search but I didn't find much information regarding using 5HTP on a 7 year old child. I am specifically trying to find info on using amino acid therapy for children.

I have used amino acid therapy myself with amazing results - I don't doub't the product just can't find info linking it to children.

Thanks again!
Kim

We have been on the TAAT (on and off, but it's definitely better when we are on - LOL) since around August.

I wonder if a provider can work with you over the phone? They could send the kit to you by mail (and you send it back to the lab by mail), they and your provider (physician) recommend the protocol, then you could order the supps directly from the company. The company that you are going through I'd think, could help you locate someone who would do that with you by phone, and I have met a couple of cyberpals that have done it that way, so it is completely doable. One should be hesitant about going it alone with the protocol. VERY much so, as there are too many negative effects going blind, and too many benifits to be gained by having a physician's direction.

My son was very low on dopamine and some others were out of whack, and he was llike the low-dopamine poster child! the specific protocol does increase his motivation and concentration, since he is not medicated any little bit seems to help. I do worry about some of the long-term effects though, and one of them that he is on does contain the 5HTP which has some very concerning effects, so I have to re-think parts of this. Even with direction, I am still hesitant, as you say! :-)

My doc did say though, that for the younger people, once the NT's get balanced out, there is a better chance thay may stay that way with titrating down and just maintenance doses if that.

I do have a thread here in the MISC section about TAAT, and some of the other poster's comments that have tried it if you want to get some more info from others. Just do a search for TAAT in the search bar at the top there.

Let me know what you think or if you think I may help you in any way.
