I've been taking vyvanse for about 3 months now(took 30mg first 3 weeks then went up to 50mg and been on that dosage since then.) For the first week or so it gave me a pretty good coverage for my day. Problem is though is that is no longer the case. Vyvanse now only gives me about effectively 6-7hours of coverage. I was thinking of talking to my doctor about maybe taking it twice daily. I was thinking maybe like a 60mg then a 40mg one about 4-5hours later. Deos anyone else take it more than one a day and how did your doctor react to you wanting more than one. I was just wondering because I know my doctor said this was suppose to last 10-12 hours.

I had the same problem as you, only I was taking adderall xr. It covered my symptoms for about 6.5 hours. I told my doc about this and he wanted to switch me to vyvanse, but I told him that I would prefer a supplemental IR dose. He was understanding, but for some reason he prescribed me focalin instead of adderall for my supplement. Focalin doesn't help me at all, so I'm about to talk to him about switching to an adderall IR supplement or (possibly) vyvanse.

Your doctor should understand your situation. Be honest and tell him why your current dose isn't sufficient. Everyone metabolizes medication differently, so the efficacy duration that pharmaceutical companies "guarantee" is often a big plate of doodoo. :D

It would be more cost effective if you took 2 50's either together or a few hours apart, but your doctor may want to titrate you up to the 70mg dose before jumping to the 100. (The theory is that a bigger initial dose might last you longer) I'm sure he's seen drop off's w/ Adderall XR and Concerta so hearing about how Vyvanse is dropping off for you will not be a surprise. An IR Dexedrine booster in the afternoons may help as well. (This is what I'm doing and surprisingly it's become the clearest, calmest, most productive time of my day)

I had a similar problem, only I found 30mg to work fine for me from about T+1 hour until T+6 hours (basicall a wide peak in the middle). He prescribed me an Adderall IR 10mg once daily last week, but so far I very much prefer Vyvanse (for its dietary freedom). You might ask about whether your doctor will okay you emptying a little less than half the powder in a 70mg capsule into a water bottle and swallowing the other larger portion immediately. That way, a couple hours in you can start occasionally sipping on the Vyvanse solution and stretch the effects more. iliketurtles posted a link ( http://www.corepsychblog.com/2007/11...e-for-add.html (http://www.corepsychblog.com/2007/11/vyvanse-for-add.html) ) by a doctor and Vyvanse sales rep who okays (and even suggests for a certain situation) this method, so maybe you could bring him up when talking to your doctor for extra credibility. Be sure he knows opening the pill doesn't bypass the slow release.

I think the 40mg would suit me as well, but I'm afraid it and 60mg won't be out for a short while. If I understand the fiscal year correctly and there are no delays, they should be out by the end of March.

I take 70mg when I wake up, and then another 70mg 6hrs later. Seems to be working ok so far.

I used to take two doses, one of 60mg and then one of 30mg after lunch, but i've found that it works better and last at least as long, if not longer, if i take all three in the am, which my doc said made more sense. The way vyvanse cleaves-- breaks apart and bonds to things in the intestine in order to be absorbed by the body--he said, is such that it plateaus:
the more you take, the slower your body can process it, so it lasts a very long time.
This is why taking more at one time is effective in extending the duration and, I found, gives a more consistent and level effect.

My prescription is for 1x50mg capsule TID (3x daily) . I was taking 50mg twice daily but not getting the coverage. I asked my doctor if we could try Dexedrine, but he said he would prefer to increase the dose of Vyvanse rather than switch, atleast for a month. For me, Vyvanse is very smooth, much preferred over Adderall or Methylphendidate , but I'm wondering if its too smooth - I'm keeping logs, and averaging only 4hrs of coverage with 50mg.
