hi guys
i'm on dexi's 60mg. but the 6 tablets i take one at a time 6 times a day. i find one tab only lasts one/two hours so i just ended up with this habit-is it bad to do this and is it more effective to take them less?
also-i'd like to here from anyone who's been medicated for a really long time and here their storys-i'm hoping these meds are safe to take for life-but i really dont wanna stuff my body up
If your doctor said its okay and your not getting the urge to crash your car into a pharmacy at 2 AM to take a 7th dose its not bad.

There's nothing bad about doing that as long as your Dr has agreed to it. Most Dr's tend to prefer the extended release versions of some of these medications in order to prevent the scenario you describe.
It's not that it's bad to dose like you describe, it's just that it's difficult for most people with this condition to remember to dose with such frequency due to how well the medications usually allow us to focus on things. Once most ADD people get focused from their medications, they tend to not always notice that their last dose has worn off until they reach a point where they start getting frustrated with things due to not being able to focus so well.

I've been taking these medications since Febuary of 1992. My stories, as well as many others like me who have taken these medications for many years can be found riddled throughout the threads of this site.
As far as my story with dosing throughout the day is concerned, I prefer the immediate release tablets of these medications more often than not. They each usually last me between 3 to 4 hours. I usually dose three times a day.
As far as long term safety of these medications is concerned, there is really nothing conclusive on that, but there are several anectdotal reports from folks like me who feel quite healthy after many years of use. Unfortunately the only studies that have been published concerning the safety of these medications are those which relate to a relatively short time period compared to the actual legnth of time that most people end up taking these medications.

I have been on ADD medication sense 1993 - I have been on Adderall 20mg sense 1997 - which is a decade+. I am healthy - I do not have a third eye growing out my left ear - I am not some drug crazed manic not do I experience things many describe as withdraw or tolerances.
I do not feel my medications working haven't in years but the medication still works because I am able to decide to focus on some thing mundane like dishes or bills and I can actually focus on these task. Even when I get interrupted by hyper hubby or playful kitty I am able to go back to what I was doing and remember where I as at in the process and what was left to be done.
I can use things like my scrap book materials and actually remember to pick up the scrap books stuff before dragging out another project - if some one comes to the door while I am cleaning I actually remember to go back to cleaning before tripping over my left out supplies at 2:00am.
I am able to feel my emotions building before I react to them - thus giving me more options when it cones to emotional expression. I am able to work through conflict with my spouse with out breaking things.
Although filter problem still remain to a small degree I am able focus long enough to have some insite and find ways to deal with this need by altering my physical environment. Visual distractions make reading thing on my computer difficult so my computer desk faces a wall - Gary's TV is a distraction so instead of throwing him and his TV out the window I am able to put on a set of headphones and listen to the music of my choice. I have found music to be a good secondary sensory stimulation when reading.
I have been on Adderall 20mg IR ever 4.5-5 hours I am awake for a long time - I am still able to run, lift, climb trees and cut wood for the fire place -
