Any fish oils users? I take fish oil (omega 3s) 1200mg a day and I don't know if it's helping mood but I know it can help with other things (like the heart).

I started taking Fish Oils because my good cholesterol (HDL) was low (it was 25; normal levels are at least ~50-60).

Andy, which formula are you taking?

(Brand, EPA to DHA ratio?)

Also, there are a couple of threads on going recently on omegas (but mostly for ADHD,I think).

I know for my son who is 15, I woud not have him without them, they stabalize his mood that much. I am on them too, and notice a HUGE difference. Better than with the amino acid protocal I was taking, though I nowhere near have the troubles you are having. :-( But they definitely take the edges of my anger outbursts and impulsive yacking/venting inappropriately that gets me into trouble. I still feel the emotion, but I feel better in control of it and can temper it down okay now.

I hope they do help you, Andy, they may even help your meds work better from what I have heard others say.

It takes a while for them to kick in though, did you know, about 3 months to max out the benes.

Do let us know how you do on them.

Finest is the brand I use.

Well I've been using them for a month and I'm not about to stop using them as my doctor recommends I use them to help with my symptoms.

I use them too Andi. At the recommendation of my physc doc.
I take the Nature's Bin brand.....the actual oil not the capsules...the doc recommended that over the capsules but said if you choose the capsules you get what you pay for. So pay a little more and you get more oil and less gelatin. I use the Omega 3-6 9 ....

It's hard to say how much they work because I have taken them as long as I have taken my meds , which work well. I can tell you if he recommended them I will stick to it, he believes in the natural approach as well as the pharmaceutical. Well the strong nails, clear skin, healhier hair, brain food and healhier heart...is all a plus too..I also take a good daily multivitaman at his request.

I have yet to hear a good reason not to take them.

Hope

I have been doing a little more reading on the benefits of different "types" and makeups of the different kinds of omegas, and it seems there is some good information out there that suggests that differences in the molecular makup of a particular formula of omegas can increase benefits even more. I found the meta study that put it all in a nutshell pretty well, as far as categorizing what types/formulations give the best results for what general conditions. (Krill versus fish oils, omegas with PS added molecularly, EPA versus DHA ratios, etc.) It is definitely worth some reading and investigating to find a forumula that is found to make the most difference for the reasons someone decides to take it.

Well, luckily, with the one I take, It doesn't repeat very badly like other ones do. My mom buys ones without fish burps...

I agree Hope, personally I take fish oil on a regular basis and I have been led to believe that it is healthy. My past few doctors have recommended it.

No fish oil for me. I am severely allergic and if I even have to look at a can (unopened) that has fish in it, I will begin wretching from the very thought of it. That said, are there any other good sources of Omega 3's besides fish oil?

There is flax, but it's not in as efficient form for the body to use as the fish oils are. Also, there is Emu oil too.
