I only have experience with the 15mg XR spansules so it will be interesting to see how they work for me.
My psychiatrist had to prescribe the IR tablets because that's all that's covered by my drug plan. In fact, I still don't actually have the pills because I went to the pharmacy and they said 10mg tablets weren't covered by my plan either, the only thing in Canada dexedrine is covered in is the 5mg tablets.
My psychiatrist prescribed me 10mg 2 x daily to start. So I'll have to get 120 5mg tablets, lol, how assinine, why can't they just give me the 5s instead of making him change it? I suppose I'll have to take 2 5mgs at a time now instead of 1 10mg.
When I get them I will relate my experiences compared to the spansules.

Sounds good man.
I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on how they compare. ;)

Different drug plans cover different things.
My school drug plan covered both kinds of dexedrine.
If your meds coverage is so limited, I take it you are under ODB or Trillium?

ODB, but that covers 3,200 different medications... like I said, my psych can fill out a form requesting my meds be covered, he just has to fill it out and fax it in...simple, but he is very busy.
Well, I've been on them since Friday.
Differences between the IR and the XR:
- The first coming up isn't much different, because I take 10mg at a time, and the 15mg XR would have released 7.5 right away anyway, when you account that the tablets don't actually contain 10mg of active ingredient, probably about the exact same amount.
- All I notice is the hills and valleys of coming down and going back up, which I personally find very self-defeating for the medication's effect. It's supposed to motivate me, but instead I find I'm just paying attention for when I feel that I'm not feeling motivated or concentrating on something, cause I really have no idea how long they are "supposed" to last, so then I need to take more. Hoping the doc sees the form I gave his secretary to prescribe me what he wishes to be covered by my plan. That way he can prescribe me the 15mg spansules. If not, oh well.
- I also started Sertraline (Zoloft) the same time, and I'm finding that it's probably synergising a lot of the Dex's effects aka sedation and calm. I literally feel like sleeping all day from when the dex starts to work, then I take the sertraline and feel even more tired. The only time I do not feel like sleeping is about 9:00pm onward after the dex has completely left me, which is terrible as I want to sleep, I'm going to ask for another dose in the evening on my next refill in a couple weeks. I'm hoping since the sertraline makes me more drowsy, it's effect in this area will wane as my body adjusts to it. Or maybe I need more dex to get over the sedative action I seem to be experiencing. I notice the tiredness the most when it's wearing off, however, when a dose is kicking in I feel physically tired (greatly reducing inner restlessness, fidgetting, constant feeling of entrapment and hyperactivity) but my mind then becomes somewhat alert (albeit much more calm and slowed down and not anxious) and wants to focus on something. I'm trying to figure out if I need more or not? (Don't think I need less as the focus improvements seem to be minimal and the motivation improvements seem to be reversed, I feel lethargic all day, hope it changes) What are your thoughts?
(I am just so happy that my anxiety seems to be completey irradicated along with my OCD! I no longer have intrusive negative thoughts that run on and on (this is equally from dex and zoloft). My social paraylsis (dex) is gone but only when a dose it working at optimal levels, otherwise I'm back to being extremely afraid of people again.)
