Hi there, my name is Linda Matteson from Pennyslvania and would like to know how most parents are able to cope with their sons or daughters add/ ADHD as I am haveing a difficult time with our son Davey who will be 11 yrs. old in Oct. and he's also in 4th grade. Also my husband Dave and I are struggling in trying to get Davey to do his homework here at home and sometimes gives the teachers a hard time as well. We've had conferences and we have what they call TSS or Mobile Therapy for our son Davey. Tami is working with Davey at West End School and is also working with his behavior in school as well. In the mean time, Rich is also working with my husband Dave and I in learning to deal or cope with Davey's ADHD, he was diagnosed with ADHD at age 4 yrs. old. Also we will be having an IEP meeting with the Elementary on April 22nd at 2:15 p.m. and we're not sure how things are going to go there, once we go to the IEP meeting. Even though, Davey doesn't have any problems with is chores either. My e-mail address is one of the two e-mail addresses it's the following: ( email addresses removed by admin)
Thank you very much,
Mr. & Mrs. David M. Matteson

P.S. our son is
David Hope you all can help me on this.

My son is 8 years old and was diagnosed with ADHD at age five. Homework used to be a total nightmare for us until I implemented a reward system. Your son is a few years older, so you will probably have to modify this somewhat but here's the basics. I made a "homework raffle ticket box" out of a Kleenex box. I made tickets, which I put inside, that say things like, "15 minutes of GameBoy at bedtime", "watch TV for 30 minutes", and "grab bag". I have a bag of small toys and things he likes. If he gets the "grab bag", I pull two things from the bag and put them behind my back. He choses a hand and he gets that prize. He only gets to draw from the homework raffle ticket box if he has stayed on task and completed his homework in a certan amount of time. I can elaborate on this if you're interested. Just send me a note.

I went through 16 months of parent training classes for these types of behavior modification issues.

Best of luck,
Kristin Clark
