View Full Version : how it went? my appointment i mean
bekindtoedward 02-24-04, 05:03 AM hehe, it was really cool. the psychiatrist was one of our lecturers in school. so he thinks i'm right about me having adhd, sorta. he's given me 5 tablets of methylphenidate (concerta here in d philippines) as therapeutic trial. he says he's still gonna give it a thorough analysis, or somthing like and we'll talk again this coming saturday.
he gave me a questionaire bout sentence completion. dunno what it's for anyways. it's already 6pm here so i'm gonna have to wait till tomorrow morning to try my new medication.
how ya all doin people?
waywardclam 02-24-04, 07:08 AM Good to see you are so cheerful!
I'm a little curious about these five pills. It's my understanding that most ADD meds are usually given two to four weeks of time or even longer before the doctor evaluates how well they are or aren't working for you.
However, it IS entirely possible that they will make a difference for you quickly...
Best of luck to you...
Paul
Nucking_Futs 02-24-04, 08:07 AM ADD/ADHD meds do take two/four weeks for the FULL effect; but, some meds you may notice little changes right off the bat or so I am told (note: I STRESS "so I'm told").
But, like waywardclam I am so happy to see you posting with a new light. And pray all goes well for you. Good luck and Big hugs.
Cherity
bekindtoedward 02-24-04, 10:00 AM well it still beats coffee and nicotine lol.
tnx guys
Actually many people see an instant effect with stimulants.
That's great to hear that he is still planning on doing a throrough evaluation. It's a good sign when a professional doesn't use how somebody responds medication as a diagnositic tool.
bekindtoedward 02-24-04, 08:48 PM concerta is working alright i guess... i can focus on whatever i feel like focusing on. it's kinda like coffee except coffee kinda gets me agitated.
i'm not gonna ask questions right now coz that makes come to the computer every hour to look for a reply. i don't wanna waste precious time today :).
have a great day everyone. WWclam, Livin and Nfuts, you and the rest of the peeps here in addforums have been of great help. so thanks... back to work now.
My doctor told me to find my own correct dosage for dexadrine
(It was fun at first )( Grin)
But I soon found what worked for me
Now I know that it takes between 12 to 13 mins for the dexedrine to react and clear my fuzzy brain and it will last for about 5 to 6 hours
My 2 cents worth
fasttalkingmom 02-24-04, 10:03 PM That's great news !!!

Same here Gary.....
Gregster 02-25-04, 12:04 AM I hope my family Dr is as open minded as yours when I ask him for Ritalin (in two weeks).
Happy to hear it helps.
Regards,
Greg
bekindtoedward 02-25-04, 12:28 AM well he looked suspicious at first... i basically just told how i was as a kid... i wasn't unusually hyper, i just never passed projects on time... told him how my impulsiveness got my mom to pay 500$ for my phone calls in 3 mos. 500$ is quite big when ur in the philippines.
he got convinced anyway. just be honest. don't tell him u came to see him to get Ritalin, or anything remotely like that. ur not sure u need that anyway. they'll be the one to say if you need meds or not. they're also usually suspicious of people malingering. :)
some things meds just can't change though...
Nucking_Futs 02-25-04, 01:39 AM Hugs Edward and ummmmm $500 is a lot in any country. But, I'm willing to bet she loves you and there is no price to high for you.
bekindtoedward 03-06-04, 05:39 AM ....
doc is taking me off of concerta :(...
he says i don't really need intensive stimulant therapy. he's gonna decide on that on our next meeting.
well whatever, i'll have my degree in medicine by next year anyway. and i know myself better.
btw, final exams went fine, i expect to be intern next month. the 5 tablets really helped a lot haha
