Day two of Dexedrine IR 5mg, thrice daily. I am finding myself to be much more sociable, assertive, confident, and energized. This is a good improvement to my ordinarily anxious sort of social ways. However, I am not staying on task too well, and am not doing so great with schoolwork the couple of times I have attempted to study. I think this may be due to 5 hours of sleep averaged per night over the past week. This seems to be the most promising of the stimulants so far. However, I feel a bit guilty, as those effects I described above are the same ones people take recreational amphetamines for. These effects will probably wear off after the "honeymoon period," but that is fine with me. I just hope that I willl have the calmness of mind to gain from it once the fog clears.

I can appreciate what your saying, but there is no reason to feel guilty for feeling those effects. I feel very strongly that it is actually those who are taking these drugs recreationally who should feel guilty.

I hope that you will have the calmness of mind that you seek once the fog clears, and I hope that you keep us posted as to how everything unfolds on that end.

Day 3

Hey, now we're talkin'. Woke up an hour early to take my 5mg, then slept for another hour. This is a habit a picked up from Dr. Amen's book, and also some threads on these forums. It helps me wake up for sure. Anyway, I got up and the medicine seemed to go strong, but it made me a bit nervous/stressed until I got some food in me. Remarkably the food didn't diminish the effects! I don't know if it's placebo or what, but I could feel it kicking around for more than 4 hours -- quite remarkable.

I took a second dose and then had a good practice session with my music buddy, who commented that I must be practicing a lot (mmhmm, yes that's it). However, I felt that I could have "enjoyed" things a bit more even though I was playing very well. After coming home and taking a half-dose, I found that I had the best of both worlds: I was playing very well and liking it a lot. My mind was really into it, I was very "in the zone".

Oh, and my mood has been very good. I feel like my system is adjusting more to this now. Having said all of that that, I will not accept the above effects until they last through this one or two week "honeymoon" period.

Tomorrow comes the real test -- I have to get some schoolwork done.

Sometimes I feel a bit speedy during lectures. The Dexedrine could also stand to help with my working memory a little more, as when I am listening or reading technical material. I feel that a higher dose would help with both of these.

Unfortunately, my doctor has been sick for some weeks now, and I have to see a substitute doctor. This new doctor feels that 20 mg per day would be "too high" (as opposed to the 15mg/day I've been taking for a week), in response to my asking for more coverage. She wants me to wait to see my regular doctor. As a compromise, she said that she'd give me a few extra for particularly difficult days. Unfortunately, that turned out to be only three extra doses for the next two weeks. She obviously doesn't know much about the medicine; she thought the capsules (spansules) were the immediate release version, so I had to insist on the tablets until she looked them up to see if they even made them. I just feel lucky to be getting anything at all, now. I hope my more experienced doctor will be more liberal with the dosing and titration.
