I was on Dexedrine for years, and it worked very successfully for me. Just before starting college, my doctor convinced me to try Adderall instead, and between a less effective med (for me), and the major life change of starting college, that's where my life started to take a major down turn. I quit the Adderall, and have been off meds since.

Fast forward 12 years, and I am now a stay-home mom to a 14 month old and my husband and I are planning on trying for #2 in the near future. But I am barely functioning as a mother. Nothing gets done around the house, and it's not my son's fault. I cannot do this any longer on my own. I love my son with all my heart, and I want to be the mother he deserves. Weaning is not an option. Has anyone else safely taken Dexedrine while nursing and/or pregnant?

Drugs like dex and adderall are in a class that have little info regarding pregnancy and breastfeeding. I think you'll be hard pressed to get a green light on this one.

Definitely don't use another person's experience as an indicator for your own potential experience. Discuss this with your doctor... I would talk with him about alternatives to use during pregnancy/breastfeeding rather than taking the risk.

Also, Please post back what he says. I'm twirling the notion of #3 in the very back of my mind. However, my two are well past the diaper/potty training/100% dependent stage, so starting all over sans Adderall versus happy, getting things done mom.. it's quite a toss up.

Breast feeding is really good IMHO, but its important to remember babies can get proper nutrition from formula.

Untreated ADD is a nightmare for me. I would rank treating add > breastfeeding in importance.

not sure how these drugs impact pregnency. Talk to your OB doc about how to treat it while going for #2.

The final choice might depend on your husband + how much he is willing to help you @ home till your done breast feeding #2.
