I just bought Omega3 and magnesium supplements but I'm wondering how much I should take. One tablet of Omega 3 contains 700mg EPA and 70mg DHA, so I guess one a day should suffice. I'm a bit concerned about the magnesium though. I don't think I have a serious deficiency since I'm not depressed or stressed out, but I thought it might be a good idea to see if there will be any effects on my ADD-like symptoms. Each capsule is 450mg though and I can't split it into half. It seems like an awful lot since it's well over the daily recommended dose, though I should note that I have very bad eating habits. I never eat any fruit or vegetables beside soup because of my oversensitivity to food. Strangely enough my blood test last year didn't indicate any deficiencies even though my eating habits were even worse back then.

So what should I do? One tablet of each a day? Should I take them in the morning or later in the day? And is it safe to take them at the same time? I'm not taking any medication right now, should that matter.

Thanks in advance.

if you do not have a deficiency then taking a supplement could prove to be a hazard. magnesium in the form of supplements can cause diarrhea. That said 350 mg daily for people 9 and up is recommended.

as for the omega 3, what does the product packaging say?

check with your doctor too before taking anything especially if you're taking any other meds.

Thanks, I'll contact my doctor regarding the magnesium. What do you mean with hazard though? It could do more harm than just diarrhea?

As for Omega 3, the packaging says (rough translation):

"1 soft capsule contains: fish oil (700mg EPA and 70mg DHA) 1000mg - gelatine (from pigs) (thickening agent) - Glycerine (thickening agent) - Vitamine E (D-alfa-tocoferol) (100% of daily recommended dose) 10mg."

It says I should take 1 soft capsule a day while eating (should it be breakfast or dinner?)

anytime you add more vitamins and her minerals to your body than you need, it can be toxic. Now whether or not magnesium falls in this category, I'm not sure, hence the advice to call your doc.

the omega 3 that I take says take 3 pills and that equates to
1,050mg EPA/150mg DHA/60mg Omega 6

they recommend starting with that ... but adding more slowly over a 4-6 week period if needed (with doctor approval of course).
