Hello,

I am new to this forum and am seeging some feedback. I was officially diagonsed with ADHD 1 year ago. I had it my whole life but always dealt with it. The ADHD lead to very strong compulsions and short temper (alochol and no patience). I have been on meds for the past year and have been doing fantastic, work/family is great and i have not drank in over a year. My doctor recently siwthed me from Focalin XR to Vyvanse and its completely different. I am not sure what is better for me, but with Focalin it would hit me and I would feel the meds within an hour, with vyvanse it is sort of like background noise (if that makes sense). I am not sure if I liked Focalin better because of the way it made me feel? It seems like Vyvvanse is better because, it may not be as habit forming. Does anyone here feel they can become addicted to their meds and become too dependent?

Addicted and too dependent

Am I addicted to my Adderall - no

Do I depend upon my Adderall to function - yes

If I could control my direction of focus by simply choosing to then I would not be ADD - if I could function at the level society expects me to without medications I would not take medications . . .

So I do depend upon my medications to work , I do not think I define dependence in the same way your post seems to present it. I depend upon my medication to work so I can choose what to pay attention to and what to ignore which has nothing to do with addiction.

Vyvanse, by the way it works comes on slow but steady. Nothing really happens with it until the pill passes from the stomach into the small intestine (where digestive process occurs) so it takes a good 3-5 hours to ramp up.

Focalin XR is bi-modal release so you are getting the first dose rather quickly, about 30-minutes and peaks in about 1 hour. That is why you notice the difference between the two meds. Both are very good treatment options.
