Ok, where can I find a doctor who knows anything about adults with ADD? I cannot take it anymore. I am sick of losing everything, not finishing my projects, procrastinating, and frustrating everyone around me with my irritability and impatience.

I do not have time to play games and need to get a doc who can deal with this quickly without me being bouced around to different people. My primary doc doesn't know anything about it, and my insurance will NOT cover this, so I need to go to only 1 person who will treat it right away, not bounce me around to therapists and psychologists.

I am now near 30 and was given ritalin when I was a senior in High School, which I quit soon after. Now 11 years later, I am trying to run my own company and I am suffering because I cannot organize myself and I am losing money.

Where can I find someone decent?

I would look on line under ADD. I would guess there is a group there that can help you out. You will need to make sure it is one who can prescribe meds. Make sure they specialize in ADD. If you go to ADDresource.org they give you a list of question to ask the Dr. before you go to him/her. Welcome and good luck.

Haha. Yes, this handle has a long and storied history. However, it has been quite difficult to keep it and appear serious now as I am no longer 23.

Call Dr. Gary Arthur on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Tampa. He's a great guy, and smokes a pipe (love that smell). When I go for my follow-ups, I only pay about $70 which is way reasonable. Good luck!

I have tried quite a few "ADD/ADHD professionals" for my ADD, none of which knew a thing about ADD's main problems of Time Management and Organization.
For organization, I don't think a Psychologist/Counselor is what you need. Try contacting the National Association of Professional Organizers (www.napo.net (http://www.napo.net)), or The National Study Group on Chronic Disorganization (http://www.nsgcd.org) , for a professional organizer with ADD/ADHD experience in the Tampa area. I too, have problems with Organization. I had to sell my comapany several years ago for the same reason... lack of organization. I am presently going it on my own as far as the therapy (Organization and Time management) goes. If you find a professional that works miracles for you...please let me know.
I am looking for an organization/time management buddy/buddies in the Tampa/St.Pete/Clearwater area , if interested, please contact me.

Thanks and Good Luck.

If you are familiar with Craig's list, you know it's a website where you can post ads for most anything--most are free depending on the category. Why not post an ad in the "help wanted" section (since you would in effect be offering someone a job), explain a little about your situation and see what replies you get. In the "compensation offered", put "to be determined". You don't have to reveal your name or actual e-mail address. (Yes, I did it, and yes it is working...) Be VERY cautious though in responding--it's alot like posting a personals ad. Make it clear in the initial ad that you're not interested in scams or schemes. I've gotten some valid responses and some quacks---so be forewarned, ha! And I'm taking my time in deciding if I want to follow through with any of them...so...

Good luck!

I had the same issue in Tampa. I called the USF psych clinic and was placed on meds. My insurance copay applied, but ask. It was a real physician, it is the real deal, you get excellent treatment. They have specialists for ADHD, even adult ADHD.

I went to Patricia Parker. She was easy going but, didn't prescribe anything. She gave me a few referrals for a second opinion and the test questions she had for adhd seem very old and odd. She was right on with the depression and anxiety. She would ask a few questions then show me the book that states if you answers equal more than blah you are depressed, same thing for anxiety. I have an appointment with Dr Bruce Edson on the 30th. I'll report back on how that went. I did have a friend that went to his Pdoc who gave had him goto St Pete to get tested for ADHD and they gave him Adderall even though they thought he didn't really have it....I was like....WTF...lol My friend said he told the doc that he had taken adderall in the past and it help with his symptons so, they gave it to him. My buddy is more depressed than he is adhd. He has energy and has a sharp mind. I swear if i go and they bull**** me i'm gonna cry like a baby until they give me something...lol

so, since i was here last, i had an appt. with dr bonnie saks. she's in tampa off of kennedy. i think she's great. i was diagnosed with adhd innattentive. she started me on vyvance, since there is a month free coupon. i have to go back in 3 weeks and let her know how i'm responding to it. my insurance doesn't cover it, and i don't think it last long. hope this helps someone!:o

I had a friend of mine who gave me 4 of his vyvanse and it worked great the 1st day. I had the buzz feeling but, it only lasted a few hours and it took almost 2 hours to kick in. The 3rd and 4th day they had no effect. I had 50mg XR i believe. I got a adderall from him as well but, don't remeber the dosage and it didn't do anything for me. He also gave me one concentra which i think worked a little. I didn't feel overly tired but, i also didn't feel super fatigued and my brain wasn't foggy. I noticed i was able to talk without being annoyed getting the words out. I was reading that people with Adhd-i respond better to adderall and Provigil. Did she give you any tests? Was she the only doc you seen? What's the dosage you're taking and how's it working?

I went to Bruce Edson and he put me on Concentra 36mg. I came in with a bunch of papers I had printed. Instead of me trying to tell him my symptoms right off back and making no sense I just gave him the papers.lol I hi-lighted the symptoms that Iíve had. You guys have been great explaining things I only thought I went through. It made it easy then for him to ask me questions and for me to tell him the crap Iíve gone through dealing with Adhd. I even admitted to being kind of suicidal when I was younger. I would keep that stuff quiet because they are quick with the baker act but, I did tell him that was a long time ago. That was just one of the really bad phases and Iím glad that Iím still here finally getting help.

I read that some people are getting mixing a low dose of Adderall IR along with the XR. My concentra has done nothing for me. Did the vyn effect go away quickly? I wish i wasn't tired all the time...freaking sucks!!!

if you want one quicker I just made an appt at USF today. My appt is july 28th. He specializes in ADHD for adults. Why did you choose dr edson? Did you get a good referral? Is he uptodate on it? Just wondering thats all. I had a bad experience with a doc here in spring hill. He prescribed me ritalin la 10 mg come see me in 30 days. Thats the lowest dose and i would need to titrate up before 30 days. He said if it doesnt work for you, then you don't have add. Well he was gruff and quick to dismiss me and just prescribed me something. I want a dr who wants to thoroughly take my history and get to the bottom of things and acts like he cares. So that is why I was wondering what you knew about this dr as far as his expertise in adhd. Thanks ahead for your reply. Robbielyn

I went to Patricia Parker 1st. She gave me a referral to several docs. Dr Edson was the only one that took my insurance. I seen Dr Edson had adult adhd listed on his profile via my insurance website. Basically i went to him cause I covered. I tried calling the USF place once and it was one of those days that my brain was totally acting up. I couldn't remeber adhd. I think i was stuttering trying to say it...lol I was saying, ahdh. The girl who answer was not very helpful either. She said the Dr's there that specialize in adult adhd didn't take my insurance but, the other dr's did. My cell phone battery was dieing and of course i didn't remeber where i placed it so, i told her i would call back and never did. I ended up calling P. Parker a few weeks later. Sorry to hear you had such a bad Pdoc, hope the USF place treats you better. Nothing irks me more than a lazy doc who just dismisses people who are looking for help. Report back on how USF was for you.

Well I went yesterday to see dr Nagera. He is a leading researcher in adhd. He was very very nice and thorough and very knowledgeable about adhd and medications. he even has a website that other alumni share with lectures on adhd and medications at www.thecjc.org site. He put me on concerta and said to titrate every three days til I found my optimal dose. I got a free prescription too from the makers of concerta. It was only for me to find my optimal dose but I also have a card from them to get discounts on my copay ($20) for subsequent rx's. I was to try 18mg for three days then increase to 36. Well 18 was nothing so today I took 36 and feel better. Now I will do the three day thing. He will mail me my rx's as I live in spring hill but he doesn't want to see til 3 months from now but can call him for any rx changes. So all in all I feel like I am in good hands. type in google usf psychiatry dept and call again maybe something has changed. what kind of insurance do you have?

I am also looking for a doctor in tampa- a brief background on my situation...
I live in tampa and am looking for a doctor that can treat ADD. I am a thirty year old male. I grew up in a very strict Catholic household where medication for a learning disability would have been unacceptable. I graduated in 2005 with my masters degree in accounting and have been trying to pass the CPA exam for the past 5+ years. I saw a doctor a week ago and he told me I have ADD symtoms but because of the abuse potential he does not prescribe stimulant medication. I offered to take a drug test but he said it was not an option. I was wondering if you know anyone in the area willing to provide medication based a persons disability. I am not even sure if a stimulant medication would be the best thing for me but i also do not want anything ruled out because of other people shortcomings. Thanks in advance for any help.
God bless!

Are there any other ADD doctors that could possibly get me back on the medication? I was on it when I was 10 and I am looking to get back on my meds even tho the clinic I had gone to already burned the records :(
