Depression and Mood Swings seem to be common for many with ADHD. I'm not posting this in the Depression Forum/Area, however, because I'm wanting a more rounded answer. That is, I am wanting people to answer the poll who both do and don't suffer from these problems.

Would you please vote with YES or a NO as to whether or not you are now being or have in the past been treated for an Affective Disorder such as Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Cyclothymia, for any notable length of time. (i.e. Beyond just getting "the blues" once in a while). The third option is a NO with a "but" tagged on to it-- meaning that "NO," you have not been treated for an Affective Disorder but you probably have suffered or do suffer from such.

You can be more specific in your individual posts as to what type of affective disorder you are referring to. In my poll, I am only wanting to get a general feel.

I voted YES. I probably have some form of Bipolar Disorder. (Not specified except that I was dx'd with hypomania about a year ago when I was "flying high"). I also have Temporal Lobe Epilepsy and with it can also come mood swings-- especially following a "cluster" of seizures. Some of my common mood swings are: Depression, Hypomania, Irritability and Anxiety.

Because I am diagnosed with both ADHD and Epilepsy, with me it is hard to say what causes what. In addition, beyond depression's chemical causations, there are simply the frustrations that come along with having ADHD (such as trouble with concentration or hyperfocussing, being socially naive, unemployment) and Epilepsy (such as not being able to drive, memory problems, unemployment). For me, I'm sure that "situational depression" plays a tremendously large part in the picture.

When I was in high school I remember talking to my family doctor about being depressed. It' was during the winter so he told me to go tanning.

Any time I have ever felt depressed in the clinical sense, I could draw a direct correlation to hormonal issues such as acute puberty :D , birth control pills, and pre- and post-partum.

In high school I was diagnosed severely depressed with suicidal tendancies. I got past those issues and did not have trouble until recently with the birth of my last baby. But, I think it has more to do with the knowledge that this is the LAST time I get to experiance this.

I've always had issues with depression (dysthymia, with some major depressive episodes thrown in). Most of my worst periods were related to life events. I think the dysthymia was closely related to the problems my ADD was causing. I'm still taking antidepressants, and feeling a lot better these days.

I do have not been diagnosed with anything. I have anxiety an low grade depression if that makes sense. I do beleive it is related to my ADD.

Can't vote, havent figured that one out yet!?
I think I am juast a classic case of extreme ADHD, I don't think I have depression. Some seemingly aspergers in my family. Thought to be some schizo's. I escaped lightly.
I just go around with the worlds noisiest brain. It's like having 20 radiostations turned on at once. Mostly talk, and some music. I like it in her for the most part. No shortage of entertainment. Just hard to always get the right station over the rest.
