The things is that I start feeling "good" when it gets dark outside then I get active and do thing, think about things, I get the best Ideas etc. This is since I was a kid and freaked out my parents, because when it was bed time I started "my day".

Anyway, do you guys have any idea, hints, or trick to get my lazy butt out of bed refreshed. I wish I could get up at let's say 7 and do some kind of exercise. But forget it this will never happen. Maybe I could force myself to get up early but then I am a total mess physically and mentally.

Any idea?
Tom

Hey Tom!

Can't see why you want to fight against your natural rythm... unless its actually absolutely necessary.

Aside from ADHD there are a definite percentage of people who are naturally 'morning' people and others that aren't!

I have two ways of waking up early if I have to:

1. Take medication or 2. Make sure I have to go whereever, on my motorcycle. Nothing like the adrenalin rush of city traffic and kamikaze couriers to get me going! :D

If neither of the above is available to me - I have to eat chocolate the moment I open my eyes... however, this last for a short period only.. .and then I'm tired and sluggish for the rest of the day.

I used to be the same way. Things that will help are several. Don't look or pursue stimulating activity before bed time. You can also learn mind control relaxation. It works from time to time but us ADDers tend to lose focus and our minds just run onto other things. But the best thing is to work out intensely sometime during the day. And find some thing that you love that you can do in the morning or that you look forward to doing so that your motivated to get up in the morning. I am so tired around 9 pm. it I crash and then I am up early. Oh one more thing don't take your meds too late if you take any.

People have all kinds of ideas they make up about this, but the rythm is dictated by light which sets off chemical/hormonal reactions in the body. Look up "sleep", there is all kinds of info on it. Basically, your body responds to darkness, especially lack of blue light, by prepairing the body for a sleeping state. Stimulation like TVs, computers, blue LEDs like in alarm clocks and other light sources will not allow this process to function well if at all. Other obvious stress or stimulation can interfere, but start with light. Want to get up at 7? Sleep cycles run about 1.5 hours, so lets say you want to sleep 9 hours. This means going to sleep at 10pm, but just turning off the lights and hoping things will work the first night probably wont happen. Stop watching TV/ computer after 9pm, tape shows you like, dim the lights and do something relaxing. It probably will take a while to get use to it, but your body will reset and you will start to find it natural. Wake up with light, light stops the sleeping chemicals and turns the brain on so to speak.

I was a morning kid, but in Uni I was a night owl. Switching back was difficult, you get into using the computer and watching tv late and wonder why you cant seem to get up the next day. I also thought exercise in the morning was impossible, but I found lifting in the morning makes you feel really really good(had a gym close to work, miss the gym not the job), if you have a gym on the way to work try it out.

Basically, light is the key. You need darkness to sleep, and light to wake up. If you cant wake up, expose yourself to blue light(natural light, or one of those alarm clocks that use light to wake you up. )

hey guys thanks for all your answers! much appreciated.
Maybe my question is wrong or I was confused, to give you my own Dx since I finally found a word for it, i would say it's a pretty bad case of a "blue monday depression"
it's a strange mental thing, a bold guess would be ptsd from school....

Maybe its just because by the end of the day when it gets dark again, ADHS people finally get tired enough to concentrate?

tom888: You're a classic hunter (see Thom Hartmann's books). Go on the circadian rhythm. Take 20 minute nap/protein/stretch breaks at your own circadian pace while hunting. Get more sleep/sustenance/sexercise when not hunting. And don't forget your flashlight and blade when you go back on the hunt.
