View Full Version : Adderall to Dexedrine Expectations? Am I Setting Myself Up for a Letdown?

I haven't received my fill for Dexedrine yet, so I'm just taking adderall while I wait (waiting eagerly). My question is thus:

What should I expect from Dexedrine? I know that they are practically the same med, but I couldn't handle the PNS stimulation from the levo isomer any longer. Is Dex less of a "body load" stimulant and more of a cognitive altering med?

Is switching from Adderall to Dexedrine a night and day difference, or is it all in our heads? People say it is more sedating and it leaves you extremely tired once it wears off, but I am a naturally energetic person anyway so I don't think this will be much of the case with me.

I've noticed that Adderall (XR) works fantastically for me for the first 6 hours after I take it, but it's like clockwork EXACTLY 6 hours after I take the med my heart starts to race, my face gets flush and I get frustrated and extremely anxious. This effect has completely turned me off to the med, and I've almost talked myself into believing it is SOLELY because of the Levo-amphetamine. Am I somewhat right?

Will Dexedrine give me the same side effects as it wears off (from your experience)?

I understand these are issues I should talk with my doctor about, but I highly doubt he has any personal experience between the two meds. I'm just asking for practical answers, if anyone can help me out here :)

I think I'm just anxious for my Dex to be filled!!

Thank you.

Dexedrine sounds like a really good switch for you.

I had a lot of adrenal problems with adderall esp late in the day. Sweating + muscle tension were the worst. The addrenal stimulation from Adderall would even build up day to day until I droped my dose or took a 1 day break for it to settle down.

Dexedrine I have zero of the adrenal problems. After 4 months I do miss some of the adrenal stimulation. Adrenal stimulation seemed to help my executive function (complex) sorta motivation, reward valuing, organizing tasks etc...

One thing that changed when I switched to dex was dosing schedule. With adderall I could feel it wearing off + know to take more. Dexedrine I had to switch to a regular dosing schedule every 3 1/2 to 4 hours. Kinda hard to tell its wearing off.

My rebound from adderall was hell I would get agitated etc. The only rebound effect I notice from dexedrine is I get sleepy.

20mg of dex = 30mg of adderall for focus/attention for me.
and
20mg of dex only = ~10mg of adderall for adrenal stimulation for me.

Adderall was very sedating for me, while Dex is less so. When Adderall wore off I didn't even notice because it did nothing for me anyway. Dex has no rebound period. This is the biggest advantage over what I took (Concerta) that I can think of. But as you know, your results may vary.
