Hi there, I'm going to China on a business trip in about a week and am on Dex 5mg tabs. Curious if they're going to find my Dex supply and then whisk me and my colleagues into a secluded room at Customs and give us full cavity searches all around. (OK you get the idea)

My pdoc gave me a letter headed letter with his contact details and an immunisation doctor gave me some other note totake with me with the labelled as my own. I'm hoping that will do. I'm also on Sodium Valproate 500mg x 2 daily for mood stabilisation.

I'm also suffering extreme stress / anxiety at the moment fromcoming off Effexor and so my normal doctor prescribed me Valium which is helping. I hope I can reduce my need for that so I dont have to take it to China with me. I can just see my butt thrown in jail for 'drug smuggling' if I bring that little cocktail in :D

Thoughts? experiences?

I don't have any experiences with this so I can't say for sure 100%... but if your meds are in their original prescription bottle, you should be fine. PLUS, since you have a signed letter from your doc, that is just icing on the cake. Sounds like you're good to go.

(again, not 100% certain... more like 99% sure about this:))

I would think you would be ok you have all the paper work and more. My doc always tells me to just take the amount of medicine with me that I will need when I fly somewhere this way they dont question it.

I went through the same thing :)
They didn't even check. I had my letter from the Doc, and as long as your meds are labelled you'll be fine...
As Em said, just take the required amount :)
happy travelling

I don't know about china, but I know from experience from traveling in Europe recently that as long as your bottles are labeled properly you shouldn't have any troubles.

After all, if your passport and your prescription bottles read different names then you have other issues to worry about!

Exactly! Just don't pack your meds in anything other than their original prescription bottle, which has all the proper labeling. Have your letter on hand just in case. You should be golden! :D

Definitly important to check I saw some UK kid got arrested in Dubai with ~1gram (few flakes) of cannabis and got a 3 year mandatory jail term.

I have no clue how china is.

Dubai would definitely be something to check out before you go.

When I went through China to Korea, they externally swabbed my bag for explosives but checked nothing else. When I went back to China from Korea for a proper visit, they
didn't check my bags. Neither did Korea (but it might be different now as they are targeting foreign workers as importers of narcotics).

Best bet is to always contact the nearest consulate, you could have asked while applying for your visa.
