I've got four large fourth-year honours BA research papers due in about a month's time, one of 30-40 pages, one of 20-25 pages, one of 22-24 pages, and one of 15-18 pages, and I've only started one, and I've got no time to work on them, what with school and work, and... argh... I had a whole month to work on them for Christmas break and I just threw that time away... I'm going to have a heart attack, I swear...

<sigh>

...really, what do I do?

You said you have a month, right?

Do one every week.

If each is between 15 to 40 pages... that means you need to do between 2 to 6 pages a day. Sorry, but mathematically that's where you are given the time you have.

Maybe you can take a day or two away from work for some extra time... I know that may not be practicle, but if you can that could help take some of the time pressure away by using a work shift for a paper instead for a day or two.

The paper writing process is always sped up for me if I sit down and draw up the clearest outline that I can. With sidenotes, just for myself, of specific key points that are important. This helps me to cut some of the fat before I lay too much on there. After the outline, plant yourself and write write write and don't even stop to re-read what you've written (unless you've forgotten where you were, I hate that!) until you have a draft that's covering the paper from a-z. Then edit. I know it's not that simple, but break it down into steps that work for you, that always makes a big thing less intimidating, especially with a time crunch.

I agree with WWC, one paper a week would be a good thing. Start with the longest, or the hardest, or the paper that you want to do the least first. Save the shortest, or the one you don't mind doing over all the rest for last.

Can you write and eat at the same time? Multitasking can be great for drafts like that.

Good luck to you on your papers! Breathe!!
