View Full Version : Glucose?

One of the studies I was reading about recently mentioned that the ADHD sample population metabolised glucose was lower than that of the control population (measured in the brain).

Another study was not able to replicate these results.

But I still wonder, what role does metabolism and glucose play for us?

I'm sure that I'm not the only who sugar binges from time to time. Anyone have some insight?
Preferably research based, but anecdotal information might be useful too.

High/low sugar levels don't replicate the symptoms of ADHD.

The 'hyperactivity' hypothesis for sugar is a myth.

It may have a small amount of truth for some preservatives, though.

You misunderstand. Correlation does not imply causation.

I am aware that sugar levels and sugar in the diet are not causally connected to ADHD. But I am also aware that carb binging is a common trait among ADHDers.

The study I am referring to had ADHD and nonADHD persons injected with the same amounts of glucose, but with the ADHD people displaying lower glucose levels in the brain.

They posited that glucose was metabolised at a different rate, but I personally wonder if it was simply used elsewhere.
If our sensory systems are more active, then is it possible that glucose is demanded elsewhere as part of the physical sensory process or in physical response to the stimuli being interpreted by an "over-active" sensory system.
