Alright I was diagnosed about 2 weeks ago and my PCP put me on adderall xr 10mg last Wed ( now day 9) . It worked great for the first 2-3 days, I was focused, motivated and it was really the first time in my life that I have finished homework in one setting. It was great. But this week when I take it I can feel it "kick in" and make me more alert, but the concentration on class or whatever i'm doing doesn't seem to be there anymore. I understand that the first few days the effects would have been more powerful since it was the first time I've taken it, but should it have droped this much? Should I be raising my dose? I am also a little hesistant to ask my doc to raise it because I do have a history of drug abuse, pain killers, some of which I got from him. I believe the only reason that he wrote me a presrciption to adderall as a first choice is because after a few of months of abusing vicodin I went to him and told him that I thought I had a problem, yada yada I got clean at a methadone clinic, I finished that about 8 months ago. I really dont want him to think that I will abuse this stuff, I really need it to work (I'm back in school full time). Any suggestion on how to approach this topic with him? How do I know if my dose is too low? There was something else I was going to ask..................................??? Maybe I should take my adderall.

welcome aboard! You will find these forums a wealth of information as you progress in treatment.

As for your question. Your dose of Adderall XR is low but not a bad starting point. That is great that you are honest with your doctor. Building a trust relationship is important. Work with your doctor about increasing dosage slowly. Until you find the correct dose the Adderall XR won't work well or long. Here are some good links I like to point newbies to: Print them out and share with your doctor too. It may help things along.

Also, if you may want to ask your doctor about Vyvanse. Longer acting amphetamine pro-drug (useless and harmless until it passes through your digestive system).

Good Luck!
