Iv been on 15mg dextroamphetamine(extended release) for a few months now(switched from adderall 30mg xr) and iv noticed that some days I feel weird. Most of the time I feel balanced all around throughout the whole day but somedays I just feel real tired the whole day. I dont understand it at all, I take the dex the same time everyday.

Is there something I may be doing wrong? I know caffeine and acidic foods can cause different effects but is there anything else? Is there anything during the first hour I should avoid? Should I eat something when i take it?

Im still having a hard time figuring Dex out compared to Adderall since its so much smoother and works completly differently.

Thanks

Sorry, I can’t help you regards meds. But have you tried keeping a journal? You could write about how you feel, what you ate, how you slept etc. After a while, and a little experimenting, you will begin to see a pattern and even learn what works best for you.

I agree, keeping a journal/log of sorts is definitely a good idea. That definitely helped me work out my ideal dose and schedule and see what worked best and what didn't. For me, when and what I eat makes a lot of difference in how I feel. Sleep can definitely be an issue as well.

Also, everyone's bound to have "off" days. How often are these occuring, on average?

What works best for me is to set my alarm an hour early, take my morning dose, then go back to sleep. I have found that this consistently provides good results.

For me, the downside is duration of effect. Since I don't have insurance I rely on generic IR. So the rest of the day variables such as remembering to take the other doses and taking it too soon after a meal etc. often result in inconsistency of symptom management.

If I were able to take a once a day medication I would definitely take it on a empty stomach like I do now with my first dose of the IR. Good luck OP.

Everybody has mood cycles. It's possible amphetamine is just accentuating yours a bit.

Amphetamine is meant to be a stimulant and sleep preventative, but it's not uncommon for people to describe feeling slugish, slow, tired, excessively calm, exhausted, etc on it. I'm not sure why this would change depending on the day, but it could just be due to natural things like metabolic rate or digestion variation. Those tiredness feelings tend to be dose-dependent (e.g 5mg might be fine, 10mg makes you slugish, 15mg makes you alert, awake), so maybe the body just doesn't absorb as much of the drug on certain days, or absorbs it more slowly or more quickly?

Watts: You take meds on an empty stomach? For me, I prefer being full just before I take them, since they suppress appetite as well as seemingly increase metabolic rate (you burn energy faster).

My appetite is not affected by the meds- I am always hungry! The only dose I take on a empty stomach is the first of the day, and the effect is very consistent ie. stomach contents etc. are not interfering with absorption. The rest of the day and subsequent doses are so-so and often inconsistent.

I also have a doctor appt. coming up next month so I think I'll try a log as suggested above.
