View Full Version : Anyone else feel different?
Eversince i started dex iv been feelign way different, its like I view everything in a new way. Examples: Things that i used to think were funny i look at as stupid. Friends whose immaturity was always a pleasure, now just annoy me. And people who were just generally ignorant and rude before and I just brushed off now i stand up for myself and make it known. and before i used to be social now its like i only talk to certain people.
I def like how Dex works compared to adderall, anyone else experience changes like that?
yes, changes in the processing of information thanks to neurotransmitter differences in the caduate nucleus, hippocampus, hypothalamus, thalumus, basal ganglia, amygdala, pfc, etc.
em123, you mention you like how Dex is compared to Adderall. If you could elaborate it would be appreciated. I am considering making the change from Adderall to Dex. What dose were you on previously and what do you take now? Thanks in advance if you are able to provide more detail.

I think that's due to dosage. I certainly know exactly how you feel, because I've been there before (5 years ago on Dex was almost a living nightmare, as the drug was acting how you describe, plus I was an angsty 14/15 year old - bad combo). I've started taking Dex again now and I am not feeling like this any more, however.
Just some things: More doesn't mean worse. I am on 5mg at the moment. I tried taking 10mg and I started to feel exactly how you describe: withdrawn, irritable, and a feeling of being more 'mature'. I then tried 30mg and to my surprise, it was nothing like 10. I was talkative, sociable, upbeat.
30mg was probably excessive, and I'm going to test 15mg etc to see how that is, but it's a good example of how you feel can change based on how much you take.

EDIT: I just realised you weren't asking what the difference is between Adderall and Dex. Ignore the rest of this post. :p
Adderall is racemic amphetamine. Amphetamine has two forms: left and right. Adderall has both dextro-amphetamine (about 75%) and laevo-amphetamine (about 25%). Laevo-amphetamine produces more norepinephrine, whilst dextro-amphetamine produces more dopamine. Both produce norepinephrine and dopamine, though.
Supposedly the difference is noticeable (not better or worse, but different), but they aren't wildly different drugs. I've heard of one working for somebody whilst the other sucked for them. *shrug*

- I used to be on Adderall 30mg XR for about a year then i switch to DEX 15mg extended. Dex to me is so much better cause you really dont feel like your on anything.
Here are a few examples from my switch:
- Adderall used to make me be serious all the time/emotionless Dex allows you to to act yourself with that restraint to not go overboard.
- With Adderall I could always feel the next dose coming on, with Dex I dont.
- When I was on Adderall and my daily dose faded away I would be really ansy, sometimes get headaches etc. With Dex I havent experienced any of that.
- When i used to first take Adderall in the morning that first dose release was always like an intense feeling, Dex is just smooth.
- Dex is cheaper lol (not the reason i originally switched but when i saw i was happy)
- Just in general with Adderall I could always tell how it was working and how it was effecting me, Dex is quiet.
hope thats enough detail

I felt just like that too:p
I think I'm a lot older than you but my experience with Dexedrine has been similar. When I started treatment my shrink said that proper medication would result in making better choices of friends. I now politely and effortlessly disengage from "time vultures" and have started to see the boho's I have been in the past attracted to as being less attractive. I too am more aware of others' "immature" behaviour and less willing to deal with it. It seems like I'm sharper in my social evaluations although I am more polite in my social dealings. It has affected my humour. I am now less bawdy, less sarcastic, less inappropriately flirtatious, more able and happier to be on the periphery. I also don't feel the need to disclose all my problems and personal history...
Isn't that "different" better? Is that what you've been feeling Em123? Maybe it's feeling more mature?

That's curious .. it is quite different with me. Sense of humour is still the same, I value the same sort of people in the same way. Being social (or not) is no different.
But I do feel more able to stand up as well. And a lot less self-doubt and worry. A sort of inner calm, certainty. The changes seem to be mostly internal.
meriellyn 03-17-08, 01:09 PM On dex I'm able to filter out many distractions or distracting people but it's in a positive-feeling way. I'm just pleasantly doing my thing and dealing with people as the situation warrants.
On Adderall I felt all "I don't have time for this crap!" and got annoyed with other people very easily, especially if they were impeding my progress on something.
Dex doesn't change my sense of humor. I didn't have one on Adderall though. :P

u find that ur mates are making jokes and they find them hilarious.... u just find the jokes stupid and too simple. instead u find humour in things that require some brain power.
u do stick up for urself more because u are more aware of everything going on. no longer are u always playing catch up because u didnt pay attention... the medicated you - is on top of everything and its everyone else who has to catch up.
unfortunately this can turn you into a very cynical person. which is terrible for social situations.

sure i feel different....i finally feel alive......if you over analyze on dex you'll go schizo...don't you feel difrent when you lose your wallet or test bad on a test...or when you can do anything at but write these post.......dopamine is very powerful make sure to replenish it......
I get this sometimes. The way I see it is that with more control over what your brain is doing you have more responsibility to direct it positively. If you're finding yourself annoyed at things you valued before, you need to decide why. Is it purely physical (feeling depressed is a good way to suck the enjoyment out of just about anything)? Is it irritability like you'd get if you drank too many coffees? Is it that you actually don't value those kinds of things, or if you do, if you enjoy being silly and immature with your friends sometimes, what's blocking it now? Are you more critical of yourself?
Think about this stuff, come up with even a vague conclusion on what's going on and why (it's a personal thing), and then after that stop thinking about it. Overanalyzing is a good way to become a hermit. If you need to analyze something to death, let it be work/school/hobbies and not your friends. :)
