It's been a week since I was prescribed 5mg Dexedrine IR tablets 3x/day. My pharmacy gave me the Barr generics. I'm not sure if they are really that effective for me. What do you guys use?

I have no idea what mine are. But does brand matter? I mean, they are chemically identical. You've seen one Dextro-amphetamine molecule, you've seen them all. I can imagine that ER capsules might be different due to different slow release mechanisms - but surely not the IR tabs? Well, apart from non-medical ingredients, but how much influence does that have?

I just took an indefinite break from Dex... I got the DextroStats only so I could have the same brand.

With that being said Luthien, my understanding from the doctor and the pharmacist is that there 'feels' like a difference because of the inactive ingredients (dyes, fillers etc., they are never the same). Also in the U.S. The law behind the generics is that the total amount of the chemical has to have bioequivalence of at least +/- 20% of the brand name that it is the generic equivalent of, so you aren't always getting the same amount of the drug.

I personally had to have the same brand because I am sensitive to the differences in the generics but a lot of people can't tell the difference.

Does anyone have any experience comparing Dextrostat (Shire's brand) with Barr and/or Mallinckrodt?

I have tried all three, and I found the DextroStat to be the least effective for me. Ironically the DextroStat was also the most expensive of the three. However, I guess that kinda comes with the territory when talking about a brand name drug, or rather a brand name generic drug in this case (i.e. DextroStat),

I found the same to be true with the brand name generic drug Methylin that I used to take years ago when I took methylphenidate based products, but I digress.
