So I have IR generic amphetamine salt combo pills of 30mg. I am supposed to take it once in the morning and another in the afternoon. I'm currently putting that on hold to try Vyvanse currently at 60mg in the morning. What are the equivalency dosages for the following 4 drugs?

Adderall, Adderall XR, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine Spansules?

If anyone can help me out I'd really appreciate it. I think I'm taking much less of Vyvanse than I should be taking. Anyone that knows about this, please help! thanks!

I've heard Vyvanse is about half to one third as strong as Adderall/Dexedrine.

Dex and Adderall are technically equivalent, but by the very nature of their difference, some people might find they need slightly more Adderall. This is likely to account for the slightly decreased dopaminergic effect of Adderall (sacrificed for increased peripheral effects) compared to Dex.

Adderall 30mg = 22.50mg Dexedrine = 70mg Vyvanse
Adderall 20mg = 15.00mg Dexedrine = 50mg Vyvanse
Adderall 10mg = 07.50mg Dexedrine = 30mg Vyvanse

70mg of Vyvanse is roughly equivilant to 30mg Adderall XR (According to Shire). 30mg of Adderall XR is roughly 22.50mg Dextro-amphetamine (75%).

30mg Vyvanse = 7.50mg D-Amphetamine
50mg Vyvanse = 15.00mg D-Amphetamine
70mg Vyvanse = 22.50mg D-Amphetamine

You take a Spansule and the Medication hits you faster and last a shorter duration. Taking Vyvanse I remember it felt like it took 1 1/2 to 2 hours to kick in but when it did it would last nearly 10-12 hours (was on 100mg / day). Adderall XR is 75% Dextroamphetamine 25% Levoamphetamine, if you have a question regarding vyvanse doses versus D-Amphetamine just find out the equivilant dose of Adderall XR and multiply the total adderall dosage by 0.75 and you have the amount of d-amphetamine equal to the vyvanse dosage.

I'm a chem/pharm major. Adderall is composed of 75% Dextroamphetamine (2 Dextroamphetamine salts and 2 Racemic Mixtures). A racemic Mixture is basically an equal mixture of the two enantiomers (Levo and Dextroamphetamine) ... so If you've got 2 Racemic salts and 2 pure Dextroamphetamine salts

1/4 Dextroamphetamine Saccharate
1/4 Dextroamphetamine Sulfate
1/4 (d,l)-amphetamine Sulfate
1/4 (d,l)-amphetamine Aspartate Monohydrate

Then you end up with a total composition of 75% Dextroamphetamine Isomer and 25% Levoamphetamine Isomer roughly... I know that Dexedrine is 100% Dextroamphetamine so I used the equivilancy dosages shire provided for determining a roughly equivilant dose of Adderall XR vs Vyvanse and then just did the math to find equal it to dexedrine.

Anyone can find out how much dexedrine is equal to an adderall XR dose

75% of 10mg Adderall XR = 7.50mg right? There you go, 10mg Adderall XR has 7.50mg of Dexedrine (Dextroamphetamine) active in it. We know that 10mg Adderall XR (according to shire anyway) equals 30mg of Vyvanse so you can only logically assume that 30mg Vyvanse has roughly 7.50mg of Dexedrine active at any given time.

Well, this may throw a wrench in the wheel. Technically, the above posters are correct in saying that Adderall is roughly 75% Dex. Though, mg per mg, dose-wise, as an overall ADD medication, I feel they are roughly equal in efficacy. I've switched back and forth between Dex IR and Adderall IR without any problems. I normally take 10mg 3x daily, for a total of 30mg daily (either Dex IR or Addy IR). For Dex spansules, which I tried for 30 days, my doc had me take two 15mg spansules in the morning (which, obviously, is also a total of 30mg/day). The last time I was on Adderall XR, I took one 30mg capsule per day.

I think I should say this in here too... Most people that I've encountered here on the forums highly prefer one over the other (either Dex or Addy). I don't really have a preference. I've switched back and forth with the same general 30mg/daily script without any problems.

Sorry, I don't have any personal experience with Vyvanse. Though, the above posters are correct in the conversion of Adderall to Vyvanse. For example, someone on currently 30mg Adderall XR would probably be switched over to 70mg Vyvanse.

A doctor might feel that Adderall 20mg XR wasn't working well for you so he tries you on 25mg of Dexedrine a day... as any psychiatrist will tell you the world of medicine (ADD medication anyway) is hardly an exact science at this point and time. Unfortunately conditions such as hypothyroidism for example where we now have the technology to monitor a patients T3 and T4 Harmone count allowing us to properly dose them doesn't exist for alot of our mental health issues. With that said the above doses I posted are just to answer the question "What dosage is equal to what dosage in 'this' medication<INSERT here name>" but it in no way means that your doctor is going to say "Ok she was on 20mg of Adderall XR and switching to dexedrine so we're going to put her on 15mg per day."
