A few years ago I made a terrible mistake and did not ask to see where I was going to sit when I accepted a new job. I left a boring job with my own office to a position I thought would be better. Trouble was I was put in an open office setting with no dividers where I faced another employee. Other than the fact that I disliked the other employee (the feeling was mutual), I had the hardest time having the feeling that someone was looking at me all the time while I worked. It was an office administrative type job.

Finally, I self distracted and was fired after the person sitting across from me planted enough seeds of doubt and I was let go without notice or warning. Maybe it was for the best but the idea of working inches from someone all day still bothers me. Is this because of ADHD? Your feedback?

I have trouble sitting next to people I don't know because It makes me feel under pressure. I have no idea why though! I also feel like that are always looking at me and I suppose that might be why it makes me feel under pressure.

I think it is distracting it is like I feel their energy and listening to them breathe and everything is annoying.

I hate it as well. Its distracting & feels terribly uneasy. Only way to get through it is put on headphones with something loud. But even then.

OK, you want to hear something funny? I work all alone at my home in the country - my nearest neighbor's house is in view about 1/4 mile away. Every time I'm working outside I feel like they're watching me - like their eyes are burning into the back of my head. Half the time, I'm not even in view of their house.

Hi,

This is caused from ADHD. A lot of people who have ADHD are very sensitive to noise, touch, food textures, lights, and smells. It falls under the
Distractibility part of ADHD. Here is some information about it.

Distractibility is more than a short attention span. Distractibility is when one is hypersensitive to the environment around them. Most of us can ignore environmental sights and sounds, but a person with ADHD can not.The distractibility is likely due to underactivity in the prefrontal cortex of the brain.

The prefrontal cortex is what tells the areas of the brain to settle down. It sends inhibitory signals to the parietal lobes to filter out sights and sounds of the environment. It also sends inhibitory signals to the limbic system (emotional centers of the brain). This causes internal distractibility, where one may be distracted by not only outside stimuli, but also by internal thoughts and emotions.

Myself having this, I am super sensitive to noise to the point I can get panic attacks. Also I don't like people eating beside me unless I am eating as well. Chewing helps block some of the noise. I am sensitive to smells, can get headaches from them. I also don't like being touch very much, unless I am in the mood for it. (Kinda hard on my husband). I also hate tags on my clothes. They all have to be removed.

I hope this was helpful.
