It's been a week since I last ran or worked out and the difference between reamining active and not active is insane. The medicine still helps but when it wears off I feel totally lost/brain dead. Anyone else exercise regularly and take medication and know of the feeling i'm talking about? I know it has nothing to do with my medication or the dosage I'm just curious if anyone else has taken a break in their exercise routine and felt this. Oh and I put this in the adderall thread because I take adderall, feel free to move the post if you feel it's in the wrong spot.. sorry i'm out of it today.

yeah same here. I took a week off work a while back, I was actually close to walking in to a hospital by the end of it, I felt totally lost and incapable of doing anything. scary

i feel the same way. from 10 years ago to around 5 years ago (ages 18 to 23) i was jogging every day for an hour. that exercise helped me with everything. last year i gained around 80 pounds (some i attribute to my depression meds) anyway, i've started working out again and i love it. although i get a huge guilt thing if i don't do something everyday. with work this weekend i didn't exercise and i'm really frustrated tonight........always tomorrow

umm yes. i don't take adderall, i'm trying to get on it but no luck yet, but i do have ADD/disordered eating, and if i don't exercise (run, yoga, swim) i go NUTS. i seriously don't know how people don't exercise. i feel lazy, lethargic, not hungry or deserving to eat (yet i will eat anyway because i feel depressed and worthless and think oh well i might as well get fat). i get in ruts of not exercising sometimes and my mood is always, always affected. i feel like a different person. i think in part it is essential self-medication for people with ADD, otherwise, where do you channel your untamed energy? it helps every aspect of my life.

how does the adderall affect your running, i'm curious? do you compete or just run for exercise? i used to compete but haven't in a year or so. i want to get back into racing but i'm not sure how the adderall will affect me...will it raise my heart rate too much?

i recently went for a run after a couple month break. I used to run 3-5 days a week but stopped after school started and around the time I started taking adderall. I posted a thread about it if you want to read it, but basically I found that after attempting to run like I normally did, I was extremely fatigued and my lungs felt like they were on fire when I breathed. My heart rate was very fast it also took a long time for it to go back to its resting bpm. Others, reported that there heart rate was 20 bpm higher than when not adderall. This indicates to me that less exertion is needed to reach your target heart rate.

For me personally, this means I can't run as fast I used to, my heart rate gets too high... but I run for myself so I can switch to jogging, I don't know what I'd do if I ran for competition.
