Right now I am taking 30 mgs of adderall-xr once a day. It helps me but only lasts 6-8 hours. I am usually awake another 8-10 hours so need another dose to keep me level headed. But my insurance is being very picky about the number of name brand prescriptions it will accept per month and adderall is very expensive.

I can't get generic xr but can get the regular adderall in generic. I am thinking of switching over so I can have two doses a day but the problem is how many hours does the regular last? What would give me more hours of ADD relief, 30 mgs of adderall-xr once a day or 30 mgs of regular adderall twice a day?

I ain't a doctor so I am not going to give out any medical advice but I take the Adderall IR 20mg and one last about 4.5 hours.

what if you spoke to your dr, and tell him, you need the duration of the INSURED XR
...and can't afford it unless you do generic for the 2nd dose.

my doc just upped me to 30mg once a day...i'm thinkin of adding a IR booster later in the day to get me threw to the end of the day....so if you could do that and have the xr once a day and then at the 6 hours mark tak a dose of genric IR...wonder if you could get that?

I take 2 20mg IR's twice a day... I can get one to last about 8 hours, as long as I eat, it seems to work better when I actually have something in my stomach :)

With your current dose of Adderall XR 30mg you are essentially taking (2) 15mg IR doses spaced a few hours apart, 15 + 15 = 30mg XR

If you were to take 30mg of IR twice a day that would be way over your current dose.

Usually when the 30mg XR isn't giving you the coverage you need the next step is to either:
a. add a dose of IR for the evening time. Could be a small (5-7.5mg dose or higher such as 10, 12.5, 15, 20, 30)
b. add an additional XR capsule.
