Ok...so I'm doing this self study nursing stuff (not able to do bricks and mortar type school).........How do I stop procrastinating and just study????? I would rather look at the walls....I have tried everything....just study for x minutes, give myself a reward (either I don't care or I give myself the reward anyway....)......etc. Thoughts???? Thanks!

I like to put my goals down on paper. I'll make a chart, listing out the day, the goal, and whether I completed it. If at the end of the week the chart is empty, I won't be feeling so good about myself. I hate that feeling, so getting a full chart really does drive me. It sounds simple, and I'm sure it doesn't work for everyone, but it really works for me. For awhile if I had an accomplished day I would put a gold stamp on a calendar. A whole month of gold would feel really good. I would work towards that feeling.

A couple of ideas off the top of my head:
Get a study buddy and talk the written material through with each other. Have fun with it. Quiz each other, compete. Make a joke about this or that part of the material. Try to probe related issues like, what if the patient's nose is runny instead of black & blue? Take a 5 minute break every 30 minutes. I used this method to study for the tests to obtain my professional license. We did it poolside, believe it or not (snacks and beverages included). The breaks were dives and horse-play in the pool.
Dictate the material onto tape or disk (just talk, don't try to learn--like you're being paid to do a commercial voice-over). Have someone else do it for you if you prefer. Then, just listen to the material & take notes. Rewind if you need to. Do it in 30 minute spurts with 10 minute breaks in between.
Draw pictures of each major concept as you go: if material's about the need to keep bedridden patients from developing sores, infections, getting dirty, etc. by rolling them to one side then back every x hours, then draw a picture of a patient laying on his side with a big sore, oozing infection and soiled derriere with a callout sign saying (GAME OVER (or FIRED) -- PATIENT NOT CHANGED IN X HOURS). Pictures are worth a thousand words, and work well for us.
Work with a tutor to get through itThe whole concept is to change the manner of approaching, processing and storing the info. as what you're doing is not working for you right now.
"Get out of the house before you find a good reason to stay in" -Benskey
I tell myself this alot, and with a little physical jolt I just get myself rolling.
Its kind of like "Humping" in a train yard (No, not that kind) they will disconnect a box segment of a train in a train yard, then back the whole line up, bump it, and send it flying down the line towards its new destination. (If you live near a yard this is the loud POW! you hear)
Get outta da house, before you find a reason to stay in, and give yourself that physical jolt, it could be a small thing, like jumping out of your chair, thats enoughf. (when I say "get out of the house", I don't mean your house, I'm talking about whatever your procrastinateing on)
SO look, if you know that as soon as your going to sit in that chair you are going to flip that switch and pick up that controller, guess what, dont sit down! :)
Its really rewarding.
