I'll be 31 soon, and I feel like I've recently (within 2 or 3 years) become comfortable with the idea that I am an adult.

I had my first child when I was 21, married at 23, and 3 kids just after turning 26. I didn't have the extended adolescence the media talks about all the time, but I didn't feel like a "real" grown-up for quite a while. If I didn't have kids, I think it's pretty safe to assume that I would be acting at least like a young 20-something right now! I don't get much opportunity now, with 4 kids!

Oh man...I definately don't prefer functioning on a childs level but it is what it is. I'm 32 and whatever it means to be an "adult" has eluded me thus far.Paying bills is absolutely impossible for me for some reason and it's not due to the fact that i don't have the money...It just doesnt get done. I have to rely on others to do it for me namely good ole mom and pops. They are the only ones who kinda understand and typically don't judge me. My soon to be ex-wife was a different story altogether... She constantly berated me and told me to grow up. Told me i had no spine etc etc. I never was able to clean so that was another source of constant conflict...it just went on and on. Responsibily is a dirty and loaded word for me. There is a constant war within me between the part of me that wants to be a responsible adult and the part that prevents me from doing that. It consumes my entire life and every waking thought. As i get older i get closer and closer to the point where i just say "Whatever, i just don't care anymore. Whatever happens happens and that is that." THE only thing that has carried me through all these years is my sense of humor and my ability to laugh at the ridiculous nature of my situation....like the time i got out my car real quick to check the mail and never put it in park or the time i fell down the escalator at the mall or this is real funny...the time i accidently head-butted my wife and about knocked her out during a "intimate" moment. Humor is a invaluable coping mechanism for me. I think we are all too hard on ourselves sometimes and need to see the lighter side of our situaions. Anyways...my 2 cents. BTW..Took me like 4 hours to write this...LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!

Every year I have lots of people ask me this question (especially younger visitors doing certain science courses and exams across the world) and so I have decided to make this a special one-off web page on this subject!
The claims that have become popular on a number of examination courses around the world are that:
1. Wasp sting venom is alkaline and so its effects can be neutralised with vinegar or acid and this neutralisationthen reduces the pain.
2. Bee sting venom is acidic and so its effects can be neutralised with bicarbonate of soda or alkali and this reaction reduces the pain.
Are either of these statements true?
The facts are that:
* Bee venom contains formic acid (also known as methanoic acid) but this is not the single active ingredient that causes the pain from a bee sting
* Wasp stings are alkali but once again the venom has so many active ingredients that it is very unlikely that it is the alkali alone that is the single active ingredient that causes the pain
