I just started Adderall a few months ago at 5mg and now up to 10mg only once a day. Since it is such a low dose, I wasn't worried about any side effects. About 3 weeks after going up to 10mg, I noticed random tiny bumps that itched like crazy here and there on my body. I should also mention that I am also taking 50mg of Zoloft once a day too. I didn't think too much of it and kept taking both meds, but they got worse and started appearing in a rash pattern. I finally went to the doctor and he thought they were flea bites without even really looking at them. I told him I don't have pets, have not been sexually active for a while and don't live with anyone and am a very clean person. Not to mention people and friends that I was around never experienced the same thing if it were to be contagious. So, the doctor gave me some sort of cream to put on me to get rid of the imaginary fleas! It of course didn't help and I continued to break out even more. So, I decided to skip a dose of Adderall just one day and the itchy rash disappeared! What bothers me the most is the doctor told me when I asked if I could be allergic to Adderall that people don't break out with bumps when allergic to medication, they only break out with flattened hives. I'm confused and convinced it's the Adderall and/or Zoloft combination I'm allergic to! Anyone else experience this?

Either see a dermatologist or get a second opinion. Your doc sounds like he's not investigating your symptoms properly.

Also be very careful about the combination of Zoloft (SSRIs in general) and Adderall. This combination can cause Seratonin Syndrome, a rare condition which can be fatal. Ask your doctor about this.

Yeah see a dermo like said above. I'm not a doctor but anyone with even a small bit of knowledge about medication or healthcare can tell you those symptoms sound like a typical allergic reaction to something. It could be the actual active ingredient or an inactive one that's used as part of the binding agent there's no way to tell without testing.

I took zoloft and adderall simultaneously will no ill affects. I would think though, that if you were having a reaction to one or both it likely would have shown up sooner. Although one can never be sure and the derm. is a great thought.

Just for chuckles, as I'm sure you have already pondered it; new detergent, sheets, soap, cosmetics, hair products, etc.? vacuumed your mattress lately?

Live in an area where there are pets, visited a friend or relative with fleas? Fleas can follow US home too.

Another thought, did you change pharmacies? Different pharmacies generally means different manufacturer, which could mean different binding agents in the meds, and well... you could be allergic to one of them.

New jewelry, etc.... I haven't heard of anyone developing an itchy rash from adderall or zoloft or a combination of the two. Be sure to update if you discover the source of your itchies!

Thank you all for your advice. Well as I said, I skipped taking the Adderall yesterday and the itchy rash went away...but I decided to take it again this morning and- yep, the rash came back! More so on my arms this time :( I waited until really late in the day to take my Zoloft and it didn't seem to make the rash any worse. I haven't changed detergent, perfume or lotion/shampoos- so, I don't think it's from that. Tomorrow I am taking my dog for the night from my mom's who is on Frontline for flea control...so we'll see after she leaves if the rash gets worse again. I'll keep you posted and please write me with any advice or similar experiences!

Hello there !
My son was diagnosed with adhd, The doctor had originally wanted to start him on strattera but there was some problem with him not being six yet and my insurance company, so they decided to put him on 10mg of Adderrall, which i found strange because hes never been on any other type of add /adhd med and there are lower doses.....strange. but anyway my son took the adderrall (regular not extended release) at nine and we did good all day , i tried different things with him to see how he would do at school, i was all excited about the change, his penminship was better as was his "Coloring inside the lines" that is untill about 3:40pm he started having mood swings crying over spilled milk type stuff and he did itch all day, i dint think much of it at first but he did get a small bump where he was scratching not sure if the bump cause scratching or vise versa, at any rate he wanted me to scratch for him during the day , his head back neck legs. His mood swings were terrible at about six thirty, he had a huge fit and started balling. I feel terrible, like Im hurting him giving him this med. I did not give it to him today(school day) as i wanted to call the pharmacist and his doc. The itching thing is listed under "rare but serious reactions to this medication" on the paper you get with this drug. The pharmacist said that generally reactions of an allergic nature usually happen on the second dose. And since my son had only taken it once that it probably wasnt an allergic reaction. I am just scared of some really bad reaction happening if i give it to him again. I dont know whether to give it to him again. any ideas?
