I used to think I had a pretty high tolerance, and now I get drunk so quickly! Then I just become more a.d.d. and I feeel like a retard. I mean everyone is pretty retarded when they are drunk, but god I'm really bad. how about you guys?

Are you on ANY type of meds? (Not just stimulants, too.)

If so, that may be why.

at the moment, yes. I just got on them though. It still was happening to me when I was on meds and was just taking zyrtec

I like a drink with a meal, but I've never liked the loss of control that happens in my brain when I drink. I always thought I had control issues until I was diagnosed with ADHD. Now I know I need all the brain power I can muster and alcohol makes it more difficult. I also wonder if my body knew I couldn't afford to lose any more brain cells?

I have an 'irritating' allergic reaction to alcohol -
kinda' half way between full on
pollen season and a coupla' hundred mild wasp bites all over my head

:-)

so - can only drink alcohol with an anti-histamine
(cetrizine

:-)

-> zirtec)

and so (of course) don't bother drinking.

Pre-ADD medication I could have become an alcoholic - and could only think when drunk -

- post-meds the urge to drink alcohol dissipated.

In exactly the same way -
I dropped nicotine in the first few days after starting ADD medication -

- I'd given up smoking some time before - and was surviving on max-strength nicotine patches -
- and so perhaps had a purer addiction that many -
- (cigarette smokers as a habit have to battle against their habit

breaks with a cigarette
coffee with a cigarette
finish a piece of work have a cigarette)

- my addiction was solely to nicotine (24 hour release
patches -
I'm really not impressed by the cost which pharmaceutical companies place on the product - 5 years ago - the cost matched the price of the habit itself).

I' ve never had alcohol while on meds, but alcohol effects me weirdly. One drink is usually okay, but with much more than than the back of my neck feels funny (not a nice kind of funny either), kind of like when I had surgery and they put me under and it was work to hold my head up straight. I've never been tempted to drink too much (or much at all) for that reason. Anybody else have that weird reaction?

when i drank I really did not feel drunk for a long time, i had a very high tolerance for booze. It did not make tired as much as keyed up. I have not drank in 8 years so I really dont know how it would affect me now.

I haven't found any difference since starting meds, except I feel like drinking less often. I never drink to excess (fall down drunk) and haven't done for at least 20 years...

I have always has a pretty high tolerance. It usually takes a LOT to get me really drunk.

Different types of alcohol affect me a little differently but generally I just become more relaxed and social. Unless I drink black label Jack Daniels... then I'm just a pain in the butt, beligerant, ridiculously impulsive, and forget things later. Oddly enough, I'm perfectly fine with other whiskey... it's actually my liquor of choice. I love George Dickel, Maker's Mark, etc and handle them just fine, even in larger amounts. Jack and I don't get along though.
Jaeger affects me differently than most other liquor as well but not nearly like Jack. Main problem with Jaeger is once I start drinking it, I want more and that's a bad idea because it gives me horrible hangovers, even in moderate amounts. Nasty stuff.

Lamictal doesn't seem to affect anything at all. I try not to drink much when taking Dex though. If I know I have a party to go to or something, I'll skip the Dex that day or take my last dose early in the afternoon so it's out of my system. This is just a precaution as it doesn't seem to affect my reaction to alcohol other than a slight flushing sometimes.

I also take allergy medication and have for years. I've never noticed any effects from that with the alcohol.

High tolerance... usually would drink half a 26er in an evening to myself without becoming fall down drunk...

I loved the feeling of drunk, I was borderline alcoholic last summer before my breakdown. Since medicated, a big fat ZERO desire to ever drink ever alcohol ever. Trying to explain to doctor, he thinks I'm just rhyming rotes off the internet when I go in there so happy that I don't feel like self-medicating when on dexedrine... yet no more than 20mg a day? WTF?

my impulses and ADD behaviour go into overdrive when I drink on meds or not. I hate it but I never learn. I am certainly different when I drink, and different to all my friends when they drink too.
